Moment of Inspiration: Nurbs modeler Beta of 17-jul-2007(valuable to 25 september)
French version:wink:
Have fun!

[QUOTE]New stuff for this release:

Added Adobe Illustrator (.AI) file export.

Added support for 3Dconnexion devices such as the Space Navigator. Various options are available for this under View / Rotate/Pan/Zoom options / 3Dconnexion options.

New Centerline option for Shell.

Extrude can now handle a multiple selection of many planar objects at once, and each of them will extrude along their own normal. You can force them all to go along a single direction by using Set Dir.

Join can now be canceled.

Updated Chamfer UI to be easier to use and fixed some bugs.

Fixed Edit/Separate to be faster when working with large objects.

Trim can now be used on edges, this will split an edge into multiple edges. This can be useful for some things that work between edges such as Blend.

You can now use the Enter key to repeat the last command, in addition to right-click.

Added dialog to control specific up/down, left/right, and tilt angles of the 3D view direction, this is available under Options / View / 3D view angles.

Added option to turn on an x,y,z axis icon in the lower-left corner of the viewport, this is under Options / View / Show axis icon.

Added sensitivity controls for the Zoom/Pan/Rotate buttons at the bottom of viewports, under Options / View / Rotate/Pan/Zoom options.

Turned on history updates for mirror by default now.

Fixed some bugs in Adobe Illustrator file import.

Fixed several meshing bugs, both in mesh file export as well as the display meshing.

Updated LWO export to write vertex normals, using the format that should work with Modo 301.

Updated LWO export to have a more common ordering of internal chunks, plus fix a bug that messed up Blender and Wings3D’s LWO importers.

Updated .3dm file reading so that information in the file that MoI does not directly use, such as dimensions or light objects, will be preserved instead of just discarded. Layer assignments will also be preserved for objects that you do not edit.

The installer now sets up a file association so that you can launch MoI by double-clicking a .3dm file in Windows Explorer. If you already have an association set up, it will not overwrite it but instead add MoI to the “Open With” menu which is available by right-click on a file.

… but not the least

A new Jul-25-2007 beta version is now available! (always till 25 september)
(french version inside

Fixed a problem that caused Script errors on some people’s machines.

Updated zooming for 3Dconnexion devices - zooming in the 3D view now allows for a more free movement forward instead of only approaching towards and stopping at the pivot point.

Fixed a crash bug in IGES importing, and AI exporting.

I’ve finally started getting paid for some of my work. I currently own Carrara 5 pro, Hexagon 2.2, ArtRage and Photoshop 5. (as well as a ton of stuff from 3d world) I LOVE Zbrush but am unsure what to buy given that I can only spend around $500. I do 3d animation but would also like to get into still illustraion work. I’m thinking about Z3, Modo 301 ($500 with Daz offer) or waiting for mudbox 2. I’m very familiar with zbrush but not so much the other 2. Given the programs I already own what are some people opinions here?
I’m in a pinch because Z3 is going up to 600 and the modo offer is only good for another week. The thing about z3 is that I’m mad I didn’t get it a few weeks ago for $380 at Daz. Ughhh :o

oh…and I also use a wacom and 3d space navigator.

If the new hexagon is stable enough to fulfill your “traditional” 3d modelling needs, consider zbrush, as you are already familiar with it and has the least overlap with the tools you already own.

Or so it would seem to me.

Yeah, I keep saying that to myself I guess AI just wanted some examples of why people may use those apps over Zbrush. It seems like a lot of members use all 3 or at least 2 of them.

I’m too undecided…I think I’ll download the modo 30 day trial later.

Thanks

Well I also used hexagon, have Zbrush 3 and have Carrara pro 5, and am looking at this Modo offer myself. Modo 301 has a great modler and render engine but do you need another modler?

I know Hexagon is more than good enougth for me, but Modo dose produce high end rendering. Now modo will have sculpturing in 301 but so far nothink has matched zbrush with its features. i wouldnt ever take Zbrush out of my pipeline as this is so essencial for me.

Carrara pro 5 can produce some very nice renders so I think for now on that budget Zbrush looks to fill the gap in your pipeline too. Id look into the more details if you can find anythink on the sculpturing in Modo. I know there is a video demo somwhere on luxology forum, showing it in action.

Hexagon base mesh:
Zbrush, detail add new topology, texture, Bump, displacment.
Carrara pro 5, soon v6. Dynamic hair, rigging, animation and Render.

Modo301 will be more pipeline friendly and versitile. It depends on what you want to do. If your primary purpose is going to be static 3D sculptures, then ZB3 is a highly tuned piece of software (for Windows.) If you’re looking for something that is going to integrate into Pipelines for animating, ZB can be costly in time remapping models to fit a convention 3d package like Maya, Lightwave, XSI, C4D, Cararra, etc., etc.

DAZ used Modo to create many of their models, but until recently has been using ZB to create morph targets. I can’t recommend ZB for that right now because we’re having nasty problems with point order and scale (critical for morph target work.) We don’t have the same problems with Modo301 release candidate.

As a user of Hexagon 2.1, this new update was long awaited. The new version is based on bug and feature fixes. Like some time ago its again on offer at $1.99 for plantinum club users.

Im not sure if the demo 2.1 is patch upgradable to 2.2, but its worth a try if you want to see how stable it is from last time.

Thank you, had not noticed.

Since I am a member and had gotten the original, the update
was in my downloads for free.

Don’t use it much but, what the hell!!!

Thanks again.

Cool! Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks. I probably would not have noticed. I bought it and buried it due to the bugs. It had a lot of great features and now it might be useful.

Yeah, this version actually works on Macs.

Free update for previous purchasers from DAZ. :+1:

And that Bryce 6.1 for $13.99 is about right. :stuck_out_tongue:
(not worth more that that, but ok for beginners)

I think I must have been one of the lucky ones with hexagon as I realy never had many issues with v2.1. V2 was usless I must add though.

As a modler its very fast to create just about anythink you want. Hopfully others can stay in the application to find out the true potential.

I did check out the free bryce and its not of much use to me as it dont offer many rendering options as regarding displacment, shaders e.c.t.

Vue infinate is another story altogether and is some quality peice of software with very high end rendering.

I really enjoy using Hexagon. If you need a very good polygon modeling app, I highly recommend it.

If it really is finally stable I think I’d like to try it…

yes, this version is more ,really more stable and is working very well! resemble the 1.2 version in stability and I agreee is a very good program.

im among who pay 249$ but this version recompensate me:+1:

Very stable. I’ve had it sitting around for a long time. The update seems to have fixed everything. I just went through the documentation and it is excellent. Only takes a couple of hours to figure everything out. Very much like Silo 2 but a better interface and more features. Very tablet friendly. Definitely was a good $2 investment. Thanks again for the heads up.

Infinite does do great renders and skies. Has to have a powerhouse computer and graphics card though. It eats Ram and Processors alive. I wish it would do more polys on imported models. I can approach a billion on stuff created internally but can’t import more than a million quads without OOM’s. It hates quads and the memory leaks they have not fixed since 5 are a real irritant. Brilliant software with lousy support. Sorry for the rant. Infinite crashed on me so many times this morning I should not be posting about it.

I have hex, it’s a surprise they updated it, I couldn’t use version 2,
(probably my graphic card was bad or something), maybe it will work now…
Do I have to instal all three updates (2.01, 2.1, 2,2) one after one or only 2.2?

I installed it as a stand alone install and has worked fine. I noticed that its faster in doing sculpturing but nothink on zbrush of course, but for people that dont have zbrush its handy and very usable.

Yes Zbrush 2 was very unstable, version 2.1 worked fine with me in some areas, but still crashed at odd times. Now it apears that prety most all bugs so far are gone but youre have to see for your self.
