OSX Nightmares...

I have been waiting a long time for 3.12 to come out on the Mac side, like I’m sure many others have. I would’ve gladly waited longer knowing how full of bugs this thing is.

It it brutally unstable with a ton of holes. To make things worse I have 5 characters for a project that we can’t open on the pc side now that they have been edited on the Mac side.

If anyone has had similar trouble and has a work around, pleaasseee help. We have a huge project riding on this getting done this weekend.

Thanks.

Tom

A very important thing in order to be able to help you: what are your system specs?

Also, what are your settings in Preferences>Mem?

As a rule, the biggest cause of problems is poor configuration.

Can you export the highest sub-d levels as obj’s from 3.12 … and then import and rebuild hierarchy in PC 3.1 to get your sub-d levels back underneath?

Perhaps if there is an update to 3.12 there should be a… save as 3.1 compatible option?

Same kind of thing here, in the reverse order. I can’t get files created on windows opened on my mac; I had an opportunity to make some quick cash but it looks like this isn’t going to work until Dec and that’s just too long.

I guess I’ll have to look elsewhere to make this app pay for itself; but I definitely feel your pain on the file issue.

Overall the app is about as stable as Modo, but the missing, weird features are definitely a problem.

You shouldn’t have issues opening 3.1 (pc) files in 3.12 (mac), i have done it without issue… One of the first things I did was test file exchange. … its going the other way where the ZTL file format has been changed in 3.12 that is the issue. Perhaps make sure your not also saving textures or alphas with the 3.1 ZTL…

Oh, that would be awesome. I’ll see if I can get the files resent from the client.

Thanks

I am using a 2x3.0 Quad Core xeon machine with 16gb RAM running 10.5.5. I’ve moved the memory settings around a bit. ZBrush max is 4gb, i tried that as well 1.5 area to see if that would help. No go.

This workstation should be able to handle these tools, my poly counts are maxing with all the subtools (typically about 3) at about 2.5mil. I’m not sure why some characters have opened on the PC and others have not.

I can export obj’s the problem with that is i lose all my layers and color that has been painted inside Zbrush.

The stability is one issue, the cross platform problem is another, but the idea that the movie menu doesn’t offer you an export button is just sweet. You can create turntables, set up all the parameters but can’t do anything with them.

I’ve generally moved things around by brute force (export obj’s and maps). ZB I/O has never been that pipeline friendly to start with IMHO, YMMV.

I’m definitely seeing that 3.12 (Mac) ZTLs don’t go nicely to 3.10 (PC). Like Spaz8, I haven’t had too many issues going from PC (3.10) to 3.12 Mac (but I have relatively plan sculpts without much polypainting.)

All-in-all, other than some I/O issues, and the usual missing features (turntables, zmapper, etc.) I haven’t had too many problem on my MacPros with Cintiqs.)

I did spend a while puzzling why some .psd alphas weren’t loading, but that turned out to be an 8-bit vs 16 grey PSD problem.
