Orpheus

Hi guys

This is my last piece. I dedicated it to Orpheus the Thracian musician and mystic.
It is all Zbrush and it is rendered in Keyshot . The details like columns, the owls, etc are build with ZModeler first and then Dynameshed and Zremeshed. Will post more details later C&C welcome.

…here is another render…

I added textures in Keyshot and did some 2d work in Gimp and Photoline. I hope you like it. Will be nice to hear your opinion.

The scene is about 145 mil polygons and I rendered it in in Keyshot 5.3. The objects havent been uv-ed at all. I just used Keyshot’s cubic projection . It works quite well. So basically the the texturing was a quick one.

I did some small fixes and cropped the image abit. Will call this one finished. Thanks for looking

I am trying to polish it and played a bit with some effects. What do you guys think?

Looking wonderful Vladd, loving the details and the essence, but to my mind the composition is currently compressing the work’s potential.

The horizontal from his head in line with the owls is dividing the picture plane in equal intervals. Making these horizontal divisions unequal will relax the composition.

Currently the evenly spaced vertical forms of the background are creating tangents with the figure whilst tonally competing with the figure.

Presently the composition favors the exquisite details you have labored over with such skill in preference to the emotional narrative. Orpheus mythologized for music of such exquisite elevatory , transcendent and transformative beauty is being shown from a down view and hence foreshortened, contained/ visually weighted within a circle rather than transporting the viewers gaze in sympathetic ascendance with his music.

With regards muscularity - the muscles are popping as if engaged in physical strain, not the ease charm and almost feminine grace associated with Orpheus or found in such modern contemporaries such as Jimi Hendrix - slim, graceful yet powerful.

In adherence to design über alles what I have suggested, I do so as a friend and fellow artist not as detractor of your work and labors which I admire.

Boozy

Wow, somebody commented on my work. Can’t believe this. This is a rare thing.

Great points Mark and they all valid. I could’t help myself and pushed all details to the max and this basically weakened the whole picture. You are right about the his muscularity - my girlfriend said the same words as you did  you are both right.
If I have time I will do another angle and change the figure a bit - I may even sculpt a new one.

Thanks again for the great advice!

Great work. Long story short - beautiful anatomy! render gives a great mood!
But his face expersion really gives sense and believability to the Orpheus character and btings this image/sculpture to the lovel higher.
Bravo.

Thanks for the compliments Nebular. Yes I tried to infuse a special feeling into his expression.

Some Keyshot 6 renders:

The anatomy is perfect. Everything that pops out under the skin is very realistic.

But the skin intself, lookslie like gooseflesh in some places - likie legs. Too much noise there I think.

Thanks Nebular. This the the best I could get from Keyshot. I haven’t got any textures, so I didn’t pay much attention to the surface look .
