Orion. This character is the first personal work that I’m taking through the full character art pipeline. Initially, I started this to keep me busy while I was searching for work. After a couple of months there’s still no work, but I finished him and I really like how it looks. Orion is the final boss of a made-up game. He’s the main enemy and I got the chance to explore a lot of work and references until I achieve the look I wanted. There’s no initial concept, I was working from a brief that I created myself. Orion is named after Metallica’s song Orion (ALL HAIL CLIFF BURTON! ). Working without concept really can pull your strings and push your limits. It shows that you can design except modeling and keep it animation- friendly. I decided to put my knowledge and skills to use and create full in-game character, following a budget for the geometry and keeping the texel density acceptable. Poly count is around 312 k triangles for the whole character. At different stages of my made-up game, you’ll face him with or without armor. For example, if he has his full armor he can hold The World Eater hammer with one hand, while if he’s not fully armored he have to carry it with both hands. He also have the Star Storm sword. Orion is a demon with half of his face being a skull with a lot of teeth. His horns are merged together right after his birth, and he’s scarred forever. When you get to fight him at the end, he uses his hammer to hit the bells in his lair, generating a deafening sound, which make you disoriented and can play mind tricks on you, such as attacking your mates, casting wrong spells, etc. He’s around 312 k triangles, using UDIMs at around 14 pxl/cm texel density. And for the face is around 18 pxl.cm. Hope you’ll enjoy it ! Cheers and thank you for watching !
