orcy, vampirey thing?

Hello everyone,

firstly - I’ve been stalking around the passages here for the last few weeks, and I’d like to say - BEAUTIFUL STUFF! wow, really - I started getting into 3D stuff a few months ago (using blender), found cgtalk (which upped the ante a lot!) and through that discovered the existence of zbrush - upon finding you lot, I’d just like to say, my jaw dropped (literally)… over and over again…

… then I went back to blender… weeps

well - I went to a mate’s house the other day, who just so happens to have zbrush, and…

… I’m about ready to sell my body, mind and soul (or even, some of my valuable things ;-P) to get a copy of this program.

I didn’t get long to play on it, but I have to say it’s the closest I’ve found to an unobtrusive (intuitive) 3d modeller… makes me feel I’m in the 21st century

okay - on with it. Here is the result of my first fiddles with zbrush, forgive me for lack of detail and any mistakes in it - this is literally a set of screenshots of what resulted from me working out what the tools do.

… and here for higher resolution

Umm… details: painted onto a single “sphere tool”, not sure exactly how long it took, but I was using the program for 45 minutes. and let me just say: doing the same in blender? well. I’ve never done anything like this in blender - but the closest I’ve come to a decent head took about 4 hours including shader time. not really rendered - it’s screenshots of “fast shader” with wire showing in the middle.

thanks guys - feel free to blast the hell out of this image - the more I can learn between now and my next session, the better.

okay, gotta go, things to ‘do’

puts on stockings and high-heels - grabs “will ‘work’ for zbrush” sign - heads outside

sigh

Nice legs!

Not bad for a first quickie go at it!!

I would suggest that for your next session you check out zspheres…I think you will find it pretty cool…you can quickly block out your object then skin it then use and abuse the subd levels which combined with free sculpting like you did here will make you sell everything you own to lay your hands on your own copy! Not to mention make you an insomniac!

…it’s my neighbour
Welcome and happy zbrushing

Nice legs!

oh no, I’ve been dressing up in stockings for ages now

thanks, I’ll definately check out the zsphere thang, I perused some of the online tutorials, and they certainly look like a fantastic approach to modeling… takes me back to days with clays…

okay, day plan:

step one: call up mate for a “visit”
step two: knock mate out with some kind of sleeping pill in the coffee
step three: use zbrush for three days straight

heh…

frenchy: glad I don’t live in your neighbourhood  and thanks for the welcome!

Hahaha you underestimate Zbrushes power over people…you better use something a liitle stronger like a good cast iron frying pan because a little old sleeping pill is not enuf to make one leave his post in front of zbrush!!

pentaphobe walks in, eyes darting about wildly…

hey…
okay…

wipes some “ketchup” off his forehead…

so I seem to have bought myself some time in front of zbrush again…
I’m not sure how long the effects will la… how long I can stay… but I’m going to try to make the most of this session.

aminuts: I checked out zspheres, good fun - and I’m sure very powerful - had a few difficulties with creases forming and suchlike, will watch more tuts and try to comprehend it better. In the meantime, I’m fiddling with this at the moment:

click here for the bigger version…

it’s becoming more and more stylized as I play with it, but started out as an attempt at a semi-humanish looking head…

forgive the shiny material, half-completed projection texture, et al. first try using projection master, and I’m far from done…

this is still very WIP, so forgive me if I’m just dead space in the forum :  (that’s why it doesn’t get it’s own thread ;-P)

I LOVE the multi-resolution editing feature… what a fantastic idea.

(oh, and another excuse: this machine only has 128mb ram, and ain’t super-fast, so I probably can’t get more detailed than the above aside from dispmaps and normal maps)

man - I can’t wait to have half of the skill of you folks… bloomin’ amazing

for now I’m just sticking with getting comfy moving things around in zbrush, zspheres and proper shading will come later when time is less restricted

wow steal some memory for your mate, 128mgs is useless…windows uses up most of that itself then whatever is left zbrush eats before you even get going…yikes!!

There is a little program called Fast Defrag that has a free version, have your buddy download it. Use it after starting the machine and or before using zbrush it will free up what memory it can…you might even get it to free up, up to 90 of that 128 which should extend your minutes on zbrush. I have to use it all the time with this dinosaur and it really does help.

thanks heaps!

I’ll definately check out that program (if only for my home system) cool

But I’ll have to save it for next time, for alas, my friend has awoken from their slumber, sore, and in a bad mood :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I fiddled with that guy a little more (the model, not my mate), but I think it’s way too soon to commit to a project just yet.

a few last images: “Elfish” --or-- “yesIKnowTheresNoSuchWordAsElfish”

plain old plain old…

many, many, many MANY thanks to Sokar, who’s skin shader I used for those last renders - straight out of the box, no fiddling - but I must say it served as a major lesson in what a difference materials make. must work on that.

 I told ya to use the frying pan! It definitely lasts longer!!
