Opposite results or unpredictable results in hiding poly's!

I’m new to Zbrush so I may be over looking something but I’m getting the opposite results when I’m hiding parts of the mesh to set up polygroups. I reviewed a video tutorial that illustrates the method nicely but I don’t get the same results. When I shift + Ctrl click on mesh areas release shift and then let go of tablet pressure my results are the selected area remains and the rest of the mesh disappears which is opposite of what I need. The area I select I need to hide ideally. Any help is greatly appreciated, I feel like I’m working backwards with the way I have to organize things right now and it’s taking much longer to gain productive results. Okay… “I’m desperate!”

You are probably using ZBrush 4 and following a tutorial that was made for an older version. See my post here on how to use selection brushes in ZBrush 4.
