opacity issues when polypainting

This question I have must seem so basic, that perhaps its been easily overlooked by other people that may have encountered it, but I’ll mention it because it sort of derails my whole process…

When I paint in program like photoshop and I want to do subtle washes over more opaque strokes, the solution is simple,…I just turn the opacity way down…when I turn the “intensity” of my rgb while painting down…I don’t get the same effect…in fact the only time its noticabley less intense, I have rgb turned down to like 6, and out of a scale of 0-100 I feel this is pretty drastic, and doesn’t give u much range…I’m assuming there is something I’m missing,…I experiment with alphas, but often doesn’t quite solve the issue…also,…I tend to get a “blotted dabb” sort of look, rather than the constant tone I would get by using a single stroke with opacity in photoshop…

any suggestions or dials to tweak would be greatly appreciate…

thanks

Try using a different brush. For example, the Standard and Layer brush both give very different effects. Turn off Zadd of course. With the Standard brush you get results like what you describe. With the Layer brush, you get results like what you want.

Hope that helps!

thanks Aurick, this is what I was looking for!
