One up another down .... [SOLVED]

When I open a panel (e.g. Geometry) it will close whatever other panel is open (e.g. Polygroups). I noticed this doesn’t happen on the copy I have on my other machine. I imagine there’s a button that enables/disables this somewhere but I can’t seem to find it anywhere. Searches here and on Google are netting me nothing so I’m here with my proverbial hat forward.
Thanks much for the help,

Thanks Doug, that solution seems like it should work, but it doesn’t.

As well, the prefs for my Lightbox never lock-in either. With every relaunch Lightbox is hidden, but the moment the cursor hovers over any portion of the UI, Lightbox pops back up–in three rows no less.

Since Windows has schizo-folder management (Program Files & Program Files (x86)), I wonder if there something’s strange about maybe where these prefs get stored ? Or maybe it somehow looks in my old release folders? Along side the 4R5 folder are 4.0 & 4R4.

These aren’t roadblocks, but it sure is annoying not being able to control these simple aspects of ZB and also has me wondering what else might be broken.

are you saying that changing your settings for subpalettes isn’t being stored?
are you saving your confiq after you make the changes?

Yup. I’ve hit ‘store config’ and even get the confirmation that it’s been saved.

I just relaunched and none of my customizations are here :frowning: It’s returned to the default, but at least the lightbox hasn’t launched

Okay, one hurdle accomplished. The above link provided suggests ‘Preferences: Interface: UI Groups’ and turn off ‘AutoClose UI Groups’ but that didn’t solve my subpalette problem. I discovered a solution that works:

‘Preferences > Interface > Palettes > One Open Subpalette

Darn Lightbox still won’t respond to the custom prefs though.

I’ve noticed that whenever I save my configuration Lightbox will turn itself on again. I need to re-save the configuration with the Lightbox ‘Open At Launch’ switch turned off.

Hey Marcus,
What’s your system config? Mine is Win7 running through Bootcamp on a 2009 MacPro desktop. I’m wondering since I’m running into some unique problems with my setup and if anyone else with a similar setup might be suffering similar ails.
~CG

I’m using Windows Vista. Using Bootcamp could well be the problem as ZBrush now stores configuration files in the ‘Public’ folders for the OS. See here:
http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Important_Note_about_ZBrush_Files

Thanks Marcus, this might be the culprit.

In my ‘Public’ folder are two related folders. BTW the subfolders are also listed since there appears to be some redundancy which could be confusing the launch process:
>> Users > Public >

  • Pixologic
  •
• GoZApps
  • GoZBrush
  • GoZProjects

  • Pixologic4R4

    • GoZApps
    • GoZBrush
    • GoZProjects
    • Pixologic <— ?
    •
• GoZApps
    • GoZBrush
    • GoZProjects

What’s interesting is there isn’t a 4R5 folder and there’s also a second ‘Pixologic’ folder within the 4R4 folder. So either a *5 folder is missing or the *4 folder is no longer necessary–and the first ‘Pixologic’ folder may be the dedicated folder mentioned in the article you provided. I’ll assume the latter since there is a more current update in it and no recent activity is evident in the other folders at all. I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to just rename the 4R4 folder and see what happens … ??

EDIT: It appears there is another place ZB looks for config files …

    • >> Users > Public > PUBLIC DOCUMENTS > ZStartup

In spite of there being a ‘ConfigFiles’ folder here, all my customizations must be stored in the root of the ZStartup folder and not in the ‘ConfigFiles’ folder. As well, there is a CustomUserInterface4R5.cfg file that is required to reside next to whatever custom file is created. If either of them are moved/ deleted, the UI returns to the default settings. Up until now I’ve been saving my customizations in the Pixologic folder located in the Program Files (x86) folder. I’ve deleted those and have only the one file in the Public folder and it’s working fine. Hopefully this will help anyone else with a similar predicament.

LIGHTBOX: Now that I’m able to view multiple subpalettes simultaneously I popped open the Lightbox subpalette and verified the issue you mentioned Marcus. I was hitting ‘Store Config’ before saving the UI, and since the subpalette was closed, it wasn’t apparent the Lightbox option was re-enabling itself after it stored, then I’d save the UI not realizing the change. This issue is now remedied.

Anyway, thank you beta, doug & marcus for the assist!

I’m glad you solved the Lightbox issue.

For the folders you show, I think those are all OK (at least, mine are the same…) and are related to GoZ.

The configuration files are actually stored in the PublicDocuments\ZBrushData folder. On Windows this is:

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\ZBrushData\

EDIT: Apologies, miss-read some of your post. I see you found the right folders.

    HTH,

Interesting that yours reside in the ZBrushData folder. If mine are moved anywhere else than the ZStartup the UI defaults … ?? Ah well, it works so I’m not messing with it
