ZBrushCentral

ok..... and um.... WOW!

Hi Everyone!
ok… Im very very very new to Zbrush (and yes Im doing tutorials like crazy)

hehehe
I suppose I should first of all say that I am not just very impressed but that I am also wildly lost and confused by a lot of the underlying concepts in Zbrush.
I have been using Sculptris a lot and I do understand that quite well, its why I bought Zbrush.
My questions are hard to ask because quite frankly I dont know what I am talking about but here goes:
Are objects as I am acustomed to them in other programs tools? and if I have that right, what is the line between objects as I understand them now and how Zbrush deals with them?
What is 2.5D? As near as I can tell its very fancy paint with neat lighting, but does it have the ability to… I dont know how to ask this other than an example: If I draw a 3D animal, for example a pig (I have, its amusing the heckk out of me) and want to use the grass brush from the 2.5D brush thingys to make a grassy 3D piggy (like fur), is that possible? or am I looking at 2.5D wrong?
I will dig into my questions about Zspheres later, right now Im trying to make a rubberducky and failing in a most amazing way and having a total blast doing it, I bet you dident know rubberduckys have dozens of tenticles!

Does any of that make sense?

Cheers!
(and thanks!)

you’ll find the links to a lot of great resources that will have all of the information you’re looking for.

GRIN!
I have been watching and reading those… thats why Im asking, I simply dont get it…
2.5D especially, I cant figure out what its for… its aweful fun though

Thank you though!

I’m new a Zbrush also and haven’t really ventured into the 2.5d painting aspect. I’ve been primarily working on trying to get my arms and head around all of the tools and features related to sculpting 3D.

But here is a pretty good explanation of 2.5D painting and how it works. Better than I could type here as a response for sure.

good luck.

Now that is an interesting page, thanks again!
I am mostly focusing on the sculpt stuff too, but dont understand the relationship between the two elements, but what Im hoping is that I can paint 2.5D stuff onto 3D objects (tools?).
My ignorance is making some very silly stuff and some rather grumpy old men.

GRIN!

the 2.5d painting brushes can’t be used in 3D edit mode but the 3D tools can be used in 2.5D mode.

If you want to see what can be done with ZBrush 2.5D, then watch Meats Meier’s Introduction to ZBrush 3 -CXhapter 14 - Illustration. Watch his other videos on Illustrarion also.

That is some fascinating stuff!
Thank you!

Im starting to understand this now, I wasent expecting 2.5D at all and simply dident know what to make of it. It was sort of like buying a bunch of clay and getting a free tractor and jack hammer tossed in.
GRIN!
Something I have noticed about te tutorials is that in many cases like with 2.5D they tell you what something does, but not WHY… I have no idea what Im going to do with it now that I have it but its already fun.

Thanks again for the help!

Cheers!
