howdy,
http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=174790
so am i (finally) understanding this correctly?
MATCAP is simply a kind of LOOK UP TABLE where a color value is simply associated with a normal vector (which is provided by the normals of the half sphere in matcap sample) and any time that vector occurs in your model, it is shaded with the color value it is associated with in the matcap?
dang, i wish this technical explanation was explicitly given in the docs. for the longest time, all i knew was the word “matcap” and i had no idea what it really was or how it did what it did and so i just avoided it.
now its advantages are very clear to me. doh! finally.
