odd plateau in normal map

I can’t figure out why my contours have this weird plateau in the normal map. My geometry is two one-sided leaf shapes. Below you can see one view of the shape in modeling mode, and two views of it in Zmapper. Any ideas?

Well, I guess that was a noob question. I increased the raycasting scan distance in the Projection tab. I wonder why this isn’t an option in the Normal and Cavity Map tab?

Go to the Misc tab. The raycasting max scan distance slider is there, and applies across the board.
