Obj import (ver 3.1)

Hi, I’m new to Zbrush and I would get hold of a trial version of version 4, but I seemed to have missed that boat. sigh However I have managed to track down a demo of version 3.1 on a cover disc…

I’ve managed to import objects as tools using the OBJ import button. However, occasionally I get the error:

The imported mesh must have identical number of points and
faces when imported into an active Subdiv surface. Switch to
the correct subdivision-level (or deselect this tool) and try
again.

Now, initially I thought it might be the model at fault (non-quad based mesh) however I don’t think that is the case. After lots of trial and error, mainly errors, can I assume it means switch to the lowest subdivision (SDiv1) as trying other subdivision levels resulted in the same error or crashes.
This may not be the case in 4R6, but wouldn’t it be better to have one error for triangulated meshes and another as a SDiv warning?

when you are importing do you have a mesh on the canvass that has multiple subD levels? that maybe why.

switch to another tool, like the star, then import the obj. when you import an obj. it’s like importing it’s geo into the current mesh on the canvass, if that mesh has subD levels you may get an error.
