Not Too Sure What is happening Here With Displacement Maps

Hey everyone, I have a little experience with Zbrush but I’m trying to really get into the software and learn how to make high quality displacement maps. I’ve searched the forums and watched numerous tutorials. I think I’ve been going in the right direction but it almost seems as though the displacement is stretching where the seams in the UVs are. I’m not really sure but I’ve repeated the problem with a simple cube mesh. If anyone else has gotten these terrible results I hoped maybe you know exactly what the issue is because I’ve spent far too long troubleshooting with such little results. Here are a two images showing it in action.

This is before I create the displacement map.

This is after.

Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions would be much appreciated because I’m at my wit’s end.

Thanks everyone.

First, it would really help if you upload your images to ZBC rather than someplace else. If you don’t know how, there’s a sticky thread at the top of the Q&T forum that explains it.

Regarding your issue, what are your UV’s like? Are you remembering to restore your base mesh before creating the map? What settings are you using for creating the map?

My UV layout is good. I am dropping down the lowest subdivison when I create the map.

Settings: Adaptive scan mode and SmoothUV.

what do you mean restore your base mesh?

I’d check your uvs again, some of the border edges look awfully close together, this might cause calculation errors in the map. I’d try using headus uv layout or a free pelting plugin like http://hydralab.com/pelting/

ps. looks like your edges are over-pinched, this could cause errors as well

I have some pretty close holding edges along the sides where I want the sharp corners/sides, which are why I have some tight edges along my border edges. Was that just a poor spot to put my seam?
