Normap map in maya 8

hi everyone,
ive been searching on how to place a normal map in maya, coz ive tried it to sss skin shader and got poor result. -pls help :frowning:

First,

Im not totally familiar with Maya 8.0. In Maya 7 you have to download a node that will convert a normal map into a bump map. Its called ā€œNormalBump2dā€ and can be downloaded for 7.0 but may work for 8.0. Import your low res object as an obj from zbrush or where ever. Create a new material, lambert will work fine and apply it to the object. Load the normal map using the ā€œFileā€ node in the hypershader. Connect that to the NormalBump2D node using the color connection. Then connect the Bump node to the Lambert as a bump map. Render in software or mental ray depending on which node you install and adjust the height depth attribute of the node!

Hope this helps.

You input normal map simple as bump map! but you have to change from ā€œbumpmapā€ to ā€œtangentmapā€ in atribute editor

to Chovasie
where can i change it to tangent? i tried going to the attribite editor and cant find it… im really a newbie in this… i really want to make this work:cry:

Thanks for the help to both of you!

here!1 just swithc here…

or you can simple connect the Out Color attribute of the file1 node to the Normal Camera attribute of the NormShader node.

load texture… mid mouse + shift drag from texture to shader in hypershade window… and open connection editor… there you connect out color on the left side to Normal camera on the tight side… and that should work…

if you want to see normal maps in viewport. turno on high qualty render…

Here’s how my teacher taught me how to properly input normal in your object.
Go to you hypershade:
window->rendering editors->hypershade
Then select the texture file you used for your object/character/scene…
Then on your hypershade menu, go to Graph->Input and Output Connections
something like this will show up:

Then on the side of the hypershade, middle mouse drag a file node in your work area:

Now you go to your connection editors:

now…

Now, on the left side, find: Out Color then select it.
On while Out Color is selected on the left, find Normal Camera on the right side and select it.

And you’re done!!! wo0t wo0t…lol
Now render and see the result
Hope that help

If you’re rendering with Mental Ray for Maya, you might want to check out this shader from Pixero:

JS_NormalMapper 1.2.2

and some notes on how to use it here:
