I’m curently trying to create a normal map for a gryphon I modelised in 3dmax. I’m using the Bird of Prey tutorial by Joe Lee and the feathers are causing me a headache. Fortunatly I forsaw the problem and I decided to make some tests using a very basic 4 by 4 polygon plane. I made some research and found a thread on that exact subject.
Basicaly, the normal map does not like multiple sub tools as is done in the tutorial. I’ve tried combining them and then attempting to make a normal map but I’ve noticed that Zmapper still treat them as 2 separate plane, calculating the first one then the second plane and discarding the first one once its done calculating.
What I need to do is either find a way to eliminate the unseen polygons under or find the proper settings so that only the top polygons (the ones that can be seen) are calculated. Otherwise, I’ll have to resort to other techniques to make my feathers. Any ideas, suggestions?
