I have been learning zbrush a bit lately in bits and pieces but not I want to do a real project in. This was my work flow. (Please let me know if this is incorrect)
I modeled a character in maya. Laid out the UVs. Did a quick rig and posed the character how I wanted.
Brought it into zbrush. Sculpted it a bit. Brought the rez down to the lowest level and made a normal map.
apply the normal map in maya through the bump channel of a lambert using either object space normals or tangent space normals (not sure which would be better they both produce crappy results. render = its looks terrible. there are seems. the faces turn either all black or the model gets this spotty black waked out bump map. I can play with the bump depth but that does not really get rid of it.
So I am wondering what I could be doing wrong. I am pretty sure my work flow seems like it should be working from what I understand.
I am not using zmapper to export the normal map. I understand its free but I cant find it. I do have a zmapper installed already but I get an error when I try to use it, basically it freezes on me. I was hoping to install a new one, but cant find it.
anyone else have similar issues or solutions?
Thanks
