Normal map doesn't work as espected in 3ds max

I can’t get the normal map from my Zbrush model to work in 3DS Max 9. What am I doing wrong? Here is what I do step by step:

  1. make the base mesh in 3ds max and add a turbosmooth modifier to see how it will behave when smoothed in Zbrush

  2. turn off turbosmooth and unwrap the lowpoly mesh

  3. export the OBJ

  4. import the OBJ in Zbrush

  5. devide 4-5 times and start adding detail

  6. go back one level

  7. go to Normal Map and click Create NormalMap

  8. go to Texure and export as a BMP

  9. go to max and apply the texture

After I do all of this, the detail I painted is displaced. Flipping it horizontally didn’t help either. Here are screenshots for you to see:

how are you applying the material?
bump slot…normal bump…apply map…flip green channel (most likely)

First of all, you should flip your texture on th Y axis (upside down)
Second, in Max the Green channel should be flipped (it is adjustable in ZBrush)

goast666 - I applied the normal in the bump slot with normal bump. I tried flipping but that didn’t work.

Jester - I’ll check it out and tell if it worked. Thanks.
