Noobie Shadowbox Question

Hi All,
Is there a way to assign a psd file(s) as an actual mask for the Shadowbox? I’ve hunted around a bit, and only found a way to load reference images, then trace the masks onto shadowbox from them. Seems like we should be able to skip that step, but maybe not.
Thanks,
Jim

You can do that by simply using your reference as an alpha. Using the mask/rectangular brush you can then use that alpha to mask and create geo. HTH

HOW TO GET CRISP TOOLS USING SHADOWBOX AND TEXTURES

1. Load the ShadowBox512.ztl from Lightbox > Tools. If you don’t have that, load the ShadowBox128.ztl, go to “Tool > Geometry > ShadowBox”, turn off “ShadowBox” button and change “Res” to 512 and enable “ShadowBox” button again.

2. Go to “Tools > Texture Map” and clone the texture then, in the Texture menu at the top, export it for reference. If you want, you can just use the SBRef.psd file in your ZTools folder instead (recommended).

3. Create the shape in your 2D app to match the view on the texture. (must be black on white and not white on black like an alpha). Don’t just draw on top of the texture and use that. What you draw should be on a plain white background.

4. Import it back into the Texture palette then go to “Tool > Texture Map” and click “New Texture” then click icon to select it and apply to the ShadowBox.

5. Go to “Tool > Masking > Mask by Color” and click “Mask by Intensity” button. Ctrl+click in ShadowBox to update.

6. If necessary, draw a rectangle on the side to increase the extrude.

Note: Works well for text.

Thanks for the techniques! I’ll try them out this week.

Thanks. :+1: That works a treat. I was somewhat confused with the line “mask by color” , however, “mask by intensity” was there

My UI differs from yours somehow.
