Noob Question..

Hi im new to zbrush and im starting my 1st project which is a tyrannosaurus iv blocked in maya. It has 4800 polys and im wondering whats the best subdivision level to work at for getting a good resolution on creating the scales and details on the body? using the dragrect tool when creating the scales they seem to be quite low res until the mesh has been divided up to 2 million polys, is this the best resolution for details? also if i start sculpting cant i add more divisions as i go along as it doesnt seem to allow this?

there is never a “best” subD level to do things at. With high frequency details like you want you’ll want a high polycount so your details aren’t showing up blocky.

you can add as many subD levels as your computer will allow. just be on the highest subD level and (ctrl+D) (tool>geometry>divide) you have to make sure you don’t have any geometry hidden or masked when you want to add new subD levels.

I hope this helps.

Sorry for the later reply iv been working on other projects, thanks alot that helped. i had masked areas when trying to subdivide.
