Noob Q. How advanced should my base be?

Hi
Being a 3ds max user I was wondering a couple of things.

  1. How advance should my base mesh be if I want to Normalmap my model and export it to 3ds max after I sculpted the mesh as I see fit? This should be with a polycount that’s realistic for Rigging, Posing, animation and so forth?

2)Can I use a Zbrush base mesh (the Rhino for example) and sculpt it to my needs and use it in 3ds max for the above things?

I hope these aren’t silly questions

how “advanced” your base mesh is is totally up to you. A lot of people prefer to start in Zbrush, and then move to another app for rigging, etc. Others prefer to use Zbrush as a detailing tool. They create what they want in another app, add details and such then simply export out the maps.

Both ways will require an animation ready mesh and UVs to work properly in another application.

The ends justifies the means is in full effect when it comes to Zbrush.

Many users find it easier to start in Zbrush because it gives them more freedom to create in a more natural/artistic fashion. You can worry about the form first and the polyflow second. Others prefer the opposite. So it really is up to you.

You can do whatever you want with the rhino.
