To all, Do I need a pad and stylus or will a mouse be sufficent for painting/ sculpting in Z brush.

Using a mouse is sufficient to get started. A lot of people only use a mouse for ZBrush and produce excellent results. But drawing and sculpting using a graphics tablet is much more natural and ZBrush is designed with tablet users in mind. So consider trying a tablet at some stage.
