Non Organic Modelling ?

Hello friends,

I could see a lot of cool models, like Ironman, or others…
these models look very technical, well, I would say… they all do have non organic meshes…

I could see so many tutirlas how you can create some nice creatures, but I couldn’t find video tutorials showing how you can create things like Ironman, or weapons, or other things like that.

Thank you so much for every little help, or link etc.

You will find some people modelling hard surface type models in Zbrush but it’s not the best app for it in my opinion. You’d be much better off with a conventional modeller like Wings3d (free www.Wings3d.com) or Blender (free http://www.blender.org/) or Silo (from$99 www.nevercenter.com) or one of the more expensive packages (Lightwave3d, Cinema4d, Maya, Max, XSI Modo etc)

Here are some ways to get sharp edges:

  • Hide all but the polygons that you want to have the sharp edge. Turn on Tool>Geometry>Crisp, then press Edge Loop. This will add a very thin edge loop to the visible mesh, forcing the edge to stay sharp when the model is divided.
  • Hide all but the polygons that you want to have the sharp edge. Press Tool>Geometry>Crease. The visible area will be given a dotted line along its edge when the polyframe is active, signifying that the edge will be kept from being smoothed for whatever number of subdivision levels is specified by another slider in the Geometry menu. You can even crease both sides of a polygon’s edge to make the effect even more pronounced.
  • Add depth to the mesh using the Layer brush. Then use Pinch to sharpen the edges.
  • Use a stencil on the model with the Layer brush and the DragRect stroke type. The stencil’s hard edges will result in your sculpt having hard edges.

Thank you for your post…

@BazC:
hmm, well, I guess this is just a taste… but I really could see amazing things done by zbrush, I mean non organic modelling, couldn’t do that better in max I guess…

@aurick:
thx a lot, like always you helped me a lot…

thank you very much,
