noise apply inflating mesh problem - 4r2 (Solved)

Hello all,

I’m having issues applying noise to mesh. I’ve got a setup that gives me a pock mark look. When I apply noise to mesh it balloons the mesh to look like some kind of marshmallow. Has anyone come across this issue before and found a solution? I’ve scoured the forum for anything relating this issue and came up empty. Any help would be greatly appreciate.

Thanks!

the curve you have set is telling zbrush to inflate your mesh. Think of the bottom left as flat (or no increase in size) the right is maximum increase in side. You’re adding an overall bloat effect to your mesh through that curve, when you apply this to the geo it actually has to inflate it to achieve that effect. What you want to do is have a negative effect and a much sharper curve near the right hand side…think an exponential growth curve.

Also remember that the noise effect before applying to the mesh is only a bump so it isn’t effecting your actual mesh yet. Keep playing with the settings on a sphere or cube, etc until you get the hang of it.

Thanks for the suggestion Beta,

I tried playing with the curve a bit more and it did help reduce the inflation. Unfortunately this meant changing the curve such that it significantly changed the look of the noise and this is somewhat useless in my case. The solution, I find is to reduce the offset variable to balance the extreme curve settings.

Thanks again for the reply,
