No "Delete lower" "Delete higher" visible on my mesh?

Hi all,

I’m hoping someone can answer this as I’m up against it at work at the moment…

Basically I’ve got a sculpt sitting at level 6 and the “delete lower” button is greyed out? (It’s a single mesh with no subtools.) I remember when this used to happen (in version 3) you cloned the tool and it usually fixed it. I’ve tried that in 3.5 R2 and R3 now and have had no luck at all?

I’ve got 6 levels of division on my mesh and 4 levels of HD active? I’m trying to delete higher at level 3 in order to bake a displacement map out to level 3, then delete lower from level 4 and make a normal map out of the higher frequency details and the HD I sculpted.

Any thoughts on a worksround for this problem in these versions of the program?

Thank you
Mike

You can do a delete levels when you have the geometry HD activated on your model. You have to remove (by cloning your tool) your Geometry HD to have these functions back.

Ahhh… right.

I did clone but it didn’t initially work. However I’ve found that if you use the “subtool master” clone option it fixes these problems (although you loose your HD sculpt info  )

So a workaround, though not perfectly ideal.

Awesome!

Thanks for the help, and if anyone else knows how to do it while keeping HD sculpt info then I’m all ears.

Cheers
Mike
