No AutoSave in ZBrush? Amazing!

3D Studio Max has had “Autoback” forever and Zbrush is as guilty of crashing. I am a new user and save often - although it’s late now, I’m a little sleepy and I just lost a half hour of vital work in a crash. I’ve been working around the clock for weeks now and this has happened too many times, whether I have been sleepy or not.

ZBrush does save tools to “Recovered Files” in a “soft” crash (a crash with an alert window) - but the last crash was as hard and as instantaneous as they come. In a split second, a total shutdown and disappearance of ZBrush. And often the Recovered File tools are missing subtools. When working for a large high-paying client on a deadline this kind of stuff is unforgivable IMO.

As I said, I am new to ZBrush, I’ve done a Google search and found nothing in the way of a solution to this nonexistence of autosave. I can’t believe this product has been around as long as it has and doesn’t have it. Really…even Microsoft Word has always had a autosave/file recovery system.

I would second that - just a system that does an auto save every x mins would be great - maybe with a few versions. Of all the software I have and have used over the years, it is only 3d software that ever crashes on me, regardless of which package - 3d software just isn’t as stable! No doubt because of the demands of 3d computationally, memory usage and graphically

I feel your pain and know the frustration when ‘your favorite software’ decides it’s done having fun now. You’d be looking at another code loop or more, like there aren’t enough of them right now. I’d certainly like the + option in the file save as dialog. You’ve heard the old expression, “don’t put all your eggs in one basket”. Makes some sense to work on all of and save your bit’s out before doing the whole thing in the scene. Layers have potential perhaps unrealised by many, it took me a while to discover them.
