My friend, you are an inspiration for me!
Nick,
This is really inspiring work.
I see so much on ZBC, but this type of experimentation is exactly what gets me excited about working in ZBrush.
Thank you for sharing everything.
Thanks for posting this Nick! Looks like a great learning experience and you have some really cool things going on there. I have been planning something similar in UDK (not as robust as this) but enough to get my head wrapped around the process. Thanks for the inspiration!
tyrellcorp - Thanks…yes there is quite a bit of purple! I’m using a LUT Color look up table in UDK, so I can tone this down fairly easy. I need to get a set up with an actual color calibrated monitor. I do want some heavier saturated colors but there are monitors where it looks to bee too much. Thanks for calling me on that!
Fynn - Thanks Fynn!
McAllem - Thanks for that!
Scaredfsalad- No problem, thanks for the kind words!
Arthaven - Thanks for the kind words!
Here is a new addition. Making the shapes is taking a long time because I am only getting a little time to work on things here and there!

The egg shaped helmet is perfect!
love the details!
Awesome as always. Love the UDK environment. Looks super cool!!! Top row to me!
Thanks a lot for the tutorials you’re posting Nick!
The swatch trick with spotlight alone has my painting dramatically looking better in one hour lol. It’s cool because I could never keep a nice color flow going and that trick just relieves my brain alot and lets me concentrate more on where and what to paint. It’s tricks like that put the fun back into CG apps. This whole thread is awesome and very inspiring.
Looks awesome Nick!
Corpus - Thanks!! I really enjoy your latest sculpt… surely you have more??? Would be cool to see more of your work!
eof3D - Thank you sir…you are a continued source of inspiration for me! I love your human work! (The females are fairly easy on the eyes as well!!)
Ruso -Thanks for that!
Tonare - glad to hear that the swatch thing worked out for you. Not sure if you saw this in a post or not but you can hold down C and sample from anywhere on the screen. I wasn’t aware of this when I made the video.
ioster - Thank you sir, I really dig the hard surface stuff you are working on a well!
Here is the latest bit I was able to make last night/this morning. Working on the belt area. There is still more that I want to do but it’s were I’m at right now.
Hi Nick, yea I knew about holding down C but without colors in front of me to pick like your swatch method I draw a blank for some reason.
Very nice update on your alien too!
Great job.
LOVE IT!!! Badass as always!
Mahlikus The Black - Thank you sir…OK…I am dying to know…how do you add things like the slice curve tools to your own custom interface…I’m at a loss with those. I can’t seem to tear them off like other things.
I think I need to grab that out of the brush menu after I have used them once?
Hello Nick,
I really like you last Alien ! The organic and hard surface areas really work well together.
It feels funny to comment here because I started learning ZBrush using your Manimal tutorial. It really got me started into ZBrush so thanks a lot
Yup. That’s a great idea.
This will be a quick time-lapse video that covers how to use ZBrush in a concepting fashion. There is a part in the video where there are horn like structures that are made on the creature, this was done using the snakehook brush. Other than that, everything else is explained with call-outs throughout the video.

The call out images that were played through the video are attached to this post. It was a little hard to read at times so I thought I would post them here.
