Thx. Here’s another quickie update.

I like what you’re doing.
It seems that his mouth is a bit more pinched or puckered or whatever.
Like the corners of his mouth only extend as wide as the outer edges of his nostrils. He’s got that pouty mouth and droopy hang-dog look.
Good work.
Had some time to work on this tonight. Here’s a small update.

i think the lips should be scaled down a little and you need to do minor changes to the nose else it looks cool.
Thx for the crits. The shape of his eyes don’t look right either. I’ll do more tweaks tonight, then it’s on to texturing him.
Had some time to work on this tonight. Here’s an update. I’m painting the whole thing by hand, so it looks a bit painterly, but I’m liking the results so far. Crits are welcome as usual.
Still have a long way to go. I have yet to add teeth and his hair is only partially painted.

Small update. Just tweeked the shape of his head, mouth and eyes a bit.
looking good! What method did you use to texture?
Lips are a little too wide, fix that and it rocks
(oops just read someone had already mentioned it sorry)
squeige - I don’t know about the lips being too wide. I’m looking at the reference and it looks about right to me. Thx.
I stayed up way too late working on this tonight, but here is another update. I’ve been touching this up in photoshop quite a bit. Still have a ways to go.
EDIT: firstblood: The method I used for painting is polypaint.
Here it is. It’s done. In the end, I decided to make it look more like a painting. I’m happy with the results.
dead on…great job! it was cool watching it develop…ultimately you got it perfectly…and i dig the paint-look.
really looks like him. wow. did you paint on the cloths or are they 3d too? really great work. nice web page too. also just watched your demo reel. really awesome game characters. I like how you showed your concept art and then the models. really cool. What is that music you had on it, it is beautiful and it reminds me of something I just can’t put my finger on.
Thanks for the replies. Ultimately I decided to go with a painterly look merely because I’m experimenting with different techniques. The Zbrush model was poly painted and used as a base, then I finished it in photoshop and painted the rest of the details in such as the clothing, hair, etc. Now that I look at it a day later I’m noticing some minor cleanup work that I’ll have to do on it.
Seavannah - The demo reel on my site is about 3 years old :). I should take it down, but thanks for the feedback.
