Newby problem: Broken mesh/shards

Hi there,

I am new to Zbrush. I don’t know how this has happened or how to fix it. The more I try to fix it, the more shards it is making.

Please let me know how you would have fixed it.

Thank you!!

Hello @WonderWoman

I can’t be sure what I’m looking at, but it appears that something about your process has resulted in some orphaned geometry in the corner of the eye. As a piece of general advice, most operations in Zbrush work best on closed volumes (no holes) with thickness. It would be better to work on the face without any holes in the eyes, and then simply remove that geometry if desired when preparing the mesh for export.

If working without subdivision levels, you can try to erase the unwanted geometry by very carefully smoothing it away with a brush in Sculptris Pro mode. Brush > Auto-Maksing Topological masking may help you to target only the piece of geometry you first contact.

If the pieces are completely separate, you can try using Tool > Polygroup> Autogroups, which will group all seperate pieces of geometry into separate polygroups. Then, Shift + Ctrl click on the main body polygroup, which will hide all polygroups except that one. You can then use Tool > Geometry > Modify Topology > Delete Hidden to remove all hidden geometry.

Thanks so much! I will try that.

One other thing I forgot to mention. Dynamesh will attempt to close the holes on the eyes as well as clean up any stray geoemtry. Dynameshing at high resolution may be an easy way to kill two birds with one stone, if it’s acceptable for your situation.

Cool, will try that first. Thanks so much. I am very grateful!
