[Newbie] Subtools disappearing

I just started working with 4r7, trying out the various ZModeler actions.
My test workflow was dragging out a tool, clicking Make Polymesh, then going to Tool->Initialize and setting up say a qcube for zmodeler. Did some work on that mesh and decided it was time for another part of my model. I went to Subtool->Insert and then tried following the same flow by clicking on Make Polymesh & Initialize.
Unfortunately Make Polymesh caused my first Subtool to disappear and my Undo stack to be deleted without any warning. Yikes!

Two questions:
a) what would have been the correct way to add another qcylinder as a subtool ?
b) how do I get my previous subtool (and Undo stack) back after accidentally clicking Make Polymesh ?

“Make Polymesh 3d” creates an entirely new tool, and makes it active. If you look in the tool list you’ll find your old tool with its subtools. Just click on it to make it the active tool again.

With the new quick cube/sphere/cylinder functionality, ANY polymesh subtool can be converted into one of those primitives at any time by pushing the corresponding button in the Tool>Initialize menu. So you could just duplicate a subtool and press QCylinder to change it into one of those.

If you want to insert a specific primitive, hit “append” or “Insert” in the subtool menu. When appended, that primitive will automatically come into your existing tool as a polymesh object. It is not neccesary to press “make polymesh3d” in that situation.

Thank you Scott!

and how about a Zsphere?

i appended a sphere to an existing subtool…now i will have to make it polymesh after i am in preview mode , or aint i? as soon as i press make polymesh the other subtool disappears…
how to get my sphere to be polymesh after i appended it to my other subtool?
