Newbie question about positioning

I’m trying to position a figure on a rock. I am having real difficulty understanding the gyro. I’ve read the instructions in the docs but they don’t seem to apply (e.g. dragging on the screen doesn’t change the z position when I’m in move). Is there somewhere I can find out how to use the gyros both in edit mode and plain move mode? Also, when I position my figure and then click edit, the figure slips back to its original position behind the rock. How does one position objects in ZBrush relative to one another.

Sorry, I have no 3D experience, just 2D. I tried layers, like in Photoshop, but that didn’t work. How does one use multiple objects to create a scene? It baffles me!

I would be very, very grateful for advice.

Investigate subtools. Much to learn. While in transpose move mode you can drag on the subtool while holding alt.

Thank you, Doug! I’ll give it a go. I’ve been using the move tool but I can’t figure out what the colours mean or how to get it to work consistently. I looked in the documentation but I couldn’t seem to get it to work the way they described. Oh the joys of learning new software. Hopefully I won’t be bald by the time I get it
