New ZBrush user - ReMesh Help

Hello all! I am a new ZBrush user and for the life of me can’t seem to get the ReMesher working correctly. Despite the resolution or polish, my base shape is giving me some strange, unexpected results:

I’m 95% sure I reset transforms and all that before I brought it in, but again, I am very new to ZBrush.

The settings I used (as reccomended by my teacher whom I no longer have access to) are:
ZBrush ReMesh Problem | ReMeshed at 256k Res with a Polish of 10 | Original Blade (Divided, sub-ds not deleted) 936k-ish ploys | ReMeshed blade 123k-ish ploys

Any help on how I can fix this or skirt this issue would be HUGELY appreciated, as I have quite a bit to get through.

Thanks in advance!

what effect are you going for?

Thanks for such a quick reply!! I’m just trying to re-topologize the first subtool of a knife - you can kind of see the shape of the blade but it seems as if it’s somehow getting mirrored. If it would help I can post a shot of the original low poly cage that I imported (or divided).

that would probably help. Is the stepping what is bothering you, or just the mirroring along the wrong axis?
If you can provide the exact steps you’re taking we can probably find the problem.

Make sure to toggle off the symmetry/axis toggles (the small x/y/z) on the Remesh button itself. Right now x is turned on.

Ok now I just feel like a dunce! Thanks so much guys, thats exactly what my problem was. I really don’t know how I missed that. I turned off the symmetry and the ReMesh snapped right into place, projected perfectly, and my retopology was a cinch. Now for the other 16 subtools.

Thanks a TON guys!!
