A Z Brush piece that i’m working on…It’s taken from a memory of mine from a visit I took to a huge Sea Lion cave along the coastline in the State of Oregon in the U.S. about 30 years ago…Keeping that memory alive in this piece.

hello sir. i would suggest that you try experementing with zspheres and also play around with more brushes. some brushes produce effects that are simply impossible to do with a clay brush or a standard brush.
remember, using zbrush is like being in a room where you have an infinite ammount of clay, and you have a special tool called the ctrl + z.so dont be afraid to go crazy. it really helps to step out of your comfort zone and do things you normally dont do.
basically all Im saying is go crazy and have fun. nothing bad at all can happen 
except for maybe a ruined ztool
also forgot to mention, you should check out some of these site for inspiration.

THANKS…Nerveink…My comfort zone is painting traditionally, and using the Painter #10 program…I exit my comfort zone every time I turn on the Z Brush program…literally.
…I totally agree with you about all of the new brushes and features now availible in Z Brush…AMAZING stuff for sure, and I will for sure be trying everything out in the program for sure…if time allows that is…:)…I have never been one to shy away from a good adventure and exploration…That’s why i’m here at Z Brush Central after all, and is the only reason that I started this sketchbook in the first place…To learn new things, and to explore my own unknowns, so as to apply what new things I learn along the way in here, to what I already know.

Thanks for the backup Bas… But not needed in my case…I know who I am, what my goal is, and what direction i’m heading in with my art…and i’m keeping it totally mine for better or worse in the process …
I can count the number of people that i’ve done copies of work from on one hand, and they were all OLD MASTERS, and were from an age where originality was prized, and imatation was frowned upon…

A little Polysculpting and Polypainting done on this Z…DOODLE sketch Composition study.
Entirerly done in Z Brush so far.
I used Magdalena’s Antique Bronze #1 Material in conjuntion with the Z Brush Bump Brush to add volume and color to the horse and rider…I used the Drag Rectangle for the Brushstroke.
I used the Smear brush to add more flow and rhythm to the cloth and hair elements in the piece.

the first thing i notice is that you really like to put you models in a dark background… Now that would be a bad idea IF you light your scenes properly… but right now the dark background makes it really difficult for people to look at your models…
what kind of brush to use should be the last thing you worry about since you should focus on the porportion and the pose of your characters first… the horse has the size and porportion of a donkey, and its muscles formations are sort of incorrect…
the same thing can apply to the woman in terms of getting the human muscle correct…
I know that putting the model behind a dark background can often hide a lot of stuffs, but you are only cheating yourself if you do that… if you want constructive critics, you should show us teh screenshot from zbrush itself with some nice matcap… at least that way people can pin point what is wrong with your model so you can improve…

Piggy…PUT UP OR SHUT UP…I can’t judge your critique until I judge your work,…But what does appear to me by what you have stated in your critique of my work is that… You don’t have a clue as to what art is, and is all about…I would suggest that maybe you ought to study some of the OLD MASTERS works…such as Rembramdt, Caravaggio ect. before you form your opinions about other peoples works.
Thank you for the statement you made about the proportions of the horse to the woman…It is a Mongolian horse, and is the same size as a donkey…As for the womans muscles not being correct…You’ll have to talk to Eof about those, it is his model and basemesh. I thought the muscles looked spot on, that’s why I chose to use it…
About the pose…Well all I can say is that, I studied under Burne Hogarth for a year, so I think I learned and know a thing or two about a dymamic pose when I see one…
The horses muscles…I used plenty of refference for them, and they are close enough for comfort for my taste and for me.
About showing tech. screen shots…I have shown what shots of the pieces i’m working on that will be useful to me in the final outcome of my pieces…I’m not an animator or do I wish to become one…I’m an image maker…so the standard T pose is not what i’m starting out with, or am interested in.
I hope you have a GREAT day while you go about trying to wreak havoc on other peoples days…PITY THE FOOL AND HIS IDIOTIC WAYS…

Doing a little Z Brush poly painting on the dragon and the horse and rider…Trying to get them to go with the rest of the piece…colorwise.
Amazing how when the intensity sliders are turned down when poly painting,…it’s about as close to painting with real oils using thin transparent veils of color to build up color depth as i’ve ever come to while painting digitally…Love it.

that wolf looks as dead as a stick - perhaps transpose him in a more natural way?
there is also too much going on in these renders - looks just like multiple objects arranged on a background for no reason at all…?

On your last opinion remark…I guess you would have to have an imagination to appreceate the unexpected…some do and some don’t…I guess you fall into the latter of the two catagories…

Hey, nice one. I like the colors and action, well done!
THANK YOU Bas… I enjoy swinging between bright and vivid and dark and somber, and action and still life…Keeps me interested, and each has it’s own particular challenges which I really enjoy trying to meet and overcome…It also keeps me from falling into a particular groove and style that becomes formula after awhile. I find it hard to find interest in a style that I keep repeating over and over again…No adventure or room and opportunity to discover new things in it…Becomes mundane work instead of inspired inspiration and pleasure…The latter of the two being what keeps me coming back to see what’s around the next corner of the adventure and journy i’m on…The first of the two being what stops me dead in my tracks…I’m pretty sure that you know what and understand what I feel, mean, and am saying…Takes a long time, alot of hard work, and a little magic to reach that understanding of ones SELF.
