New Works

Hey there SpiritDreamer,

I like that you are working on some nice dynamic poses in your scenes. Something I noticed however, was the placement of the feet in your knockout boxer. If you are delivering a powerful punch like that, (and granted I am not a boxer  ) your feet would not be together like you have them here. That fighter looks as if he is about to fall on his face. You need one leg out in front for balance. I would encourage you to stand in front of a mirror or have someone pose for you and just watch how they would naturally stand and where the weight is placed.

Also, on the placement of the figure on the ground. You are starting to get some nice follow-through with rotation of the torso of the main fighter but it looks like he hasn’t actually hit the spot where the other figure was standing before he was knocked out. Does that make sense? The fighter on the ground needs to be visually further back in space to convince the viewer that fighter B was just hit by fighter A.

I hope that helps. Looking forward to seeing what happens and good luck!

Kdshay…Thank You for the contructive feedback,…always appreciated, and welcomed…:+1:small_orange_diamond:)
I think you are talking about the last piece that I posted…I was trying on that one to get the moment when Mohammad Ali had already knocked Sony Liston to the canvas seconds before,…and then he went back to the scene and hovered over him while leaning forward and daring Sony Liston to get up.
I did that piece a few years back, and just posted it in here today, because I liked the energy and looseness that is conveyed…similar to that George Bellows painting that Ehren posted above, which is somthing that I feel is lacking in my most recent attemps at creating the scenes between Mohammad Ali and Joe Frazier…Now that I look at that last piece again, there are alot of changes that I would make,…composition, figure gestures ect…Lke that right knee of Mohammad Ali would overlap the right hand glove of Sonny Liston,…which would put Sony Liston futher back in space in the picture plane, creating a little more distance between the two boxers…Lots of stuff like that, that could improve the piece,… if I were to try and do that scene again…Always evolving while learning, rarely satisfied,… and always learning the most from mistakes made along the way…Hopefully…
Thanks Again Kdshay.:+1:

WIP. Did alot of work and sculpting this morning on these two boxers…Went over the entire figure of Joe Frazier…Beefed him up quite a bit and started working on his face and head…still a lot to do on him yet…Also started working on the face and head of Mohammad Ali catching that powerful left hooh of Joe Frazier…Trying to get some emotion going on in thier faces before I go for the total likeness that makes them… them.

Stefano T80…Thanks Man…I really enjoy your works also.

Wrapping these fight scenes up for now…I got what I was after in each fight…the essence of the fight.
The first fight where Joe Frazier pounds Mohammad Ali over and over again with that powerful left hook of his, finally knocking him down at the end of the fight, and keeping his title.
The third and last fight between these two, where Mohammad Ali wins the fight after Joe Frazier’s corner man calls it off after the forteenth round due to the closed eyes and extreme swelling of the forhead of Joe Frazier.
Both fighters took an extreme beating in this last fight between them…Mohammad Ali later said that it was the closest thing to death that he had ever experienced.
Anyway,…I learned alot while doing this set of fight sequences, and that’s what counts the most…Now it’s time to learn some more about all of these new and Great features in ZBRUSH…Lots of experimenting and exploring ahead…

My Opinion and Rating of this ZBRUSH Cental Wip. and Sketchbook Forum…Two Stars

Can’t say that I understand this forum, or appreciate my post being taken off of the bottom row, but such is the way in here, and I will live with it…Just doesn’t say much for the forum,…That’s just my personal opinion though, for whatever it’s worth.

At least I know that there is a forum with some truth in it, a place where juvenile taste is not accepted as the norm,…and a place where my work is still appreciated, and welcomed…A place where pettyness and nitpicking bullsh…t and censorship doesn’t happen on a daily basis…Thank God for CG TALK, is all I have to say.
ZBRUSH is a wonderful software, …It’s just a shame that it has a narrow minded clique running the show in this forum.
Now go ahead and censor this, and show your true colors one more time.

A statment in my CG Talk Sketchbook this morning below from a CG Talk artist and member

Hi Glenn

I like the added colour to their shorts - really sets off the scene. You have definitely captured two struggling men in action; the pain is there and the immovable mountain of the opponent is there, and somewhere in the middle of it all is a sense of gentlemanliness (if that’s a word ),
I think you have come a long way in creating a tribute to both boxers.

cheers and take care
a.

I think you got censored…

I thought I was done with these boxing scenes…I guess I was wrong…LOL…Going to turn them into paintings…Not satisfied with the stiff look that I get with ZBRUSH…They always end up looking like painted sculptures to me, which is not what i’m after…I want them to look like paintings in the end…so that’s what i’m going to go for with these boxing scenes that i’ve been working on lately…I have to have something that I can relate to when I paint, and these scenes are it…

Been studying the boxing paintings of George Bellows…His darker versions seem much more powerful and dynamic than his lighter scenes where everything in the scene is depicted clearly, so I thought I would try my hand at a darker version of this scene of mine this morning…I am going to expand the canvas to include the onlookers at some point on these scenes of mine…I just want to get the main stage and focal point set in place properly first.

wow, you are studying this fight intensely… i well remember… i like the painterly feel the last ones of your work have,(particularly like the one from 21nov) which is also in the loose modeling style you used. to me, this carries a lot of the emotion, much more than a finely polished model could. i enjoy watching your explorations on this topic.

A very well done tribute to the Sport…I like the loose style you used gives it a cross between stop motion
photograph and a finely executed oil painting…:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:
