WIP. Just doing a little experimenting with the lights and materials on these boxers this morning…Need to figure out how, and the best way to make the four corner post and ropes for the ring next…The answer may be in one of those new classroom demo’s…maybe the one with the bolts sticking out of the sphere at the end of it…A whole lot to learn yet, and deffenity a challenge for me…One day at a time, and lots of baby steps for this old dog that’s trying to learn something new…
ZBRUSH still Amazes me, and more so than ever with what is in this newest version…A totally pleasurable adventure every time I open the program up…Can’t be beat…Thank You for the experience of that pleasure pixologic…small_orange_diamond:)
Happy Halloween everyone…Remember to Remember and Honor your ancestors,…or they may come back to haunt you…

WIP. …DynaMesh / LightCap experiment using the Mannequin Hand that comes with ZBRUSH in the mannequin section…Took all of a minute to put the gesture in the hand, …then just took it into DynaMesh / LightCap to take it from there to wherever I want to take to…a full figure or whatever is desired…Basically the same system that I used for the boxer, but starting with the hand this time, instead of the pelvis and torso as I did with the boxers figure.Just trying to get a quick workflow as I explore some of these great new features in ZBRUSH R2.

WIP. Just some quick sketching
sculpting this morning …just to see if this system of quick sketching/sculpting that i’m working on, is workable,…seems to be,.only took about 10 minutes to tie it all together with some muscle and tendon…used the curved surface brush for the hard edged shape from the elbow to the outside wrist, and the rest was done using just the clay buildup brush…Lovin these new brushes, and DynaMesh…
ZBRUSH 4R2…DynaMesh…LightCap
Your work has always been consistently interesting, but there’s a clear improvement technically, as well. Your latest sculpts especially show this. Great work!
@ SpiritDreamer…( Glenn ) What you mean Fur Willis ? I spent a lot of time in Boston Commons back in the 60’s…probably before your time whipper snapper.
Thanks for stopping by…as you can tell , seems like there’s not enough time in the day to do art, allways busy working to make ends meet…
Will look at your thread later on, though the peek I took made me wonder what your goal is, or do you have some deep seated OCD about half naked boxers ?? LOL…
I will say that last Altar piece you did with the lion was awesome, the one thing that bothered me a bit was the cg perfection of the lines and corners…
All in all a wonderful thread as you know…Deke
NOV. 03, 2011
Kevphil…Hey Thanks Man…The technical part of this computer art has always been the hardest part for me, so i’m glad you can see some improvement in that area…Hard for us old folks to grasp all of this technical stuff sometimes…After all,…we weren’t weaned on computers and the technical stuff that comes with them,…like most of the youngters in this forum and field of art,…and some of it is just hard to digest…at least in my case, I know it is…But the basics of art will always be there, and the full understanding of those basics will always tell the tale of failure or success…No getting around that fact, not when it comes to art, …good art that is…
Hey Deke/Blue…You have a couple of years on me…so i’ll let that whipper snapper slide…Having been a Teamster most of my life,…I am a firm believer in senority…
While you were hanging out in the commons, I was hanging on the corner over in South Boston with the rest of the hoodlums I grew up with…I’m Lucky to have survived that part of my journy…most of us didn’t,… between the draft and the street, both of which were killers in those days…I grew up around boxing, and boxers, so I guess that’s why I am into them now with my art…plus I like the challenge that comes in trying to create action, and figures in action…and hey, …I put trunks and shoes, and gloves on those guys…what else do you need when boxing…besides the skill to keep from getting killed…LOL…
Thanks for the visit guys…Much Appreciated…
Wip. Started working on the ring that these boxers are in…

I like your anatomie work,
can’t understand why this thread is so low rated,
you really have an eye for that
NOV. 05, 2011
GwainbarekThanks Man :)…About rating…Never made me, so it surely won’t break me…meaningless.
WIP. More work done on this boxing ring…Going to put the backs of the crowds heads and shoulders in next…ringside view…Will be intersting to see what happens with the shadows with this new and great BPR / LightCap system that ZBRUSH has now…Will be a fun experiment anyway…

WIP. …Made alot of changes, and did alot of sculpting on these boxers… Started working on the heads and faces of the boxers this morning…Want to end up with the likeness of Mohammad Ali and Joe Frazier…Just getting the emotions in place to start with this morning…to have a solid emotional foundation to build upon…No references used yet…just memories…Will get some good reference next, to put in place the fine details that make them…them…

Did alot of work and sculpting on these two boxers to get more of a likeness of Mohammad Ali and Joe Frazier…This is the second fight they had…where Mohammad Ali won when the fight was called off by the ref because Joe Frazier wasn’t looking too good… both eyes closed up and his forhead was swelled up pretty good…Good call by the ref.
Next i’m going to do their first fight…where Joe Frazier came on strong as Smokin Joe was known to do and nailed Mohammad Ali with a massive left hook that sent Mohammad Ali falling to the canvas …losing him that fight…This will be in honor of Joe Frazier who just passed away yesterday…R.I.P. Joe Frazier…Gone, but Not Forgotten
ZBRUSH 4R2…DynaMesh…LightCap
I wasn’t sure where you were going with this at the beginning, but am now realizing this is getting to be a fine piece of work.

Hey…Thank You Blue…:)…Funny how things happen sometimes…I didn’t have any particular fight in mind when I started this experiment about a month ago or so…Just found out that Joe Frazier was sick and getting ready to pass on the 6th of Nov…and here I am working on this historic sequence of fights between Mohammad Ali and Joe Frazier for the last couple of weeks…Life is Strange at Times,…Makes me wonder sometimes…Am I just a Pawn in some Strange Game…
Anyway,…Started on the fight this morning between Mohammad Ali and Joe Frazier…The first fight between them …The one where Joe Frazier knocks Mohammad Ali to the canvas with that massive and deadly powerful left hook of his.
Just some quick simple gestures this morning while trying to figure out how best to visually describe this historic knock down that left Joe Frazier holding on to hisTitle.

A longe time friend of mine over at CG Talk sent me this link yesterday…It might also be useful to someone in this forum, so I thought I would share it here in my sketchbook in this forum…
The link is in her post to me,…posted below…Enjoy…
Hi Glenn
It’s been a while since I visited and it’s great to see you still powering along with inspiration and dedication here I was driving home from work only yesterday and heard about Joe Frazier… you’re certainly picking subjects in the moment (even though you’re working on a past event). Your 3D work is really going places Glenn - to me this piece is starting to look like a slow motion shot: complete with ‘sound effects’ et all
Nicholas Dunlop, a film artist from Australia - and the Australian Dance Company, created a movie using ultra-slow-motion camera where short clips show people interacting through dance, boxing, argument and other drama - these were then shown on large billboards across the world… You might want to check this out (as it may clear up my ramblings

Thought I would share it in this forum…Enjoy…

Holy shi… stuff!!!
That was amazing even though it was an advertisement!
If I could do that I would get in so much trouble!!!
Thanks for showing us that!!
Its interesting and cool that you were making this stuff with Joe Frazier when he went, I’m not one for odd coincidences but this is a good one.
Cheers!

Hi Mealea…Glad you enjoyed that link…Pretty powerful and amazing stuff…:)…About coincidences…I wonder, and I guess that’s the whole point of them…I Wonder…Who Knows…
Some more work done on the gesture of Joe Frazier as he lands that powerful left hook of his, and sends Mohammad Ali flying down to the canvas in their first title fight…I will work more on the hesture of Mohammad Ali next…Once the gestures are there, I will refine the sculpts, get their emotions in place for the action taking place, and make them look like who they are, and what they were going through.

Apparently its made by one person.
Cheers!
yo do you ever look at the paintings of George Bellows? That guy worked out some fantastic boxing compositions. I think his earlier stuff is a little better and more fluid. Later he got really in to the golden section thing and his work got kinda stiff. Anyway you should check him out for some inspiration. btw - I think people rate this thread low because they don’t like thinking outside the box. Yeah ok, so some of the stuff isn’t that great technically… but I don’t think that’s the point at all. There is obviously a lot of creative expression and experimenting going on here. The stuff looks fun and he’s just letting it flow. Nothing wrong with that. I mean how many perfectly rendered t pose mechs do we wanna look at??
hope you don’t mind this pic. —
