Hi SpiritDreamer,
I have been through your thread in the past and initially I couldn’t understand what was happening. Other elements look painted, others look sculpted, other were good and others were bad. I had to go to your gallery to understand that you were experimenting.
What I now understand is that you are trying to approach the digital medium the same way you would the physical (possibly oil painting).
If that is right it is the reason you have taken so much flak I guess. What you see in your mind contradicts the way we mostly work (modeling in t-pose, texturing, rigging, materials, lighting) for you it is just light and form.
We only get to that if we render something…
I also think that with your latest piece you have come pretty close to what you were initially aiming for.
Why am I writing this:
well initially when I saw your thumbnails and your work I thought “wooot?” and I almost fell in the trap of trolling you. I didn’t because I wanted to find out if the female in one of your pics was yours, since it is clearly superior. Now after many months I finally see that your workflow is giving you results and I wanted to say: Good work!
By the way the purple one with a bit more contrast (darker) is what I would chose, although it is not as bold as the others, which is also something you might be considering.

Koyima …Thank You Would not make much sense for a 2D artist who wants a painting as an end result to use the same methods, and to approach ZBRUSH in the same way a game artist does…Totally different goals and objectives, with totally different end results in mind. Entering into a realm dominated by game artist and animators, i’m not at all surprized that I caught alot of flak by a few trolls…
In any case, flak and trolls from any realm that I enter into will never stop me from persuing and acheiving my goals…
Thanks for taking the time to explore my background and works before making an uninformed trollish snap decision about me, and my work…A true sign of professionalism, and maturity…

Count me as one of the people who does not really get this thread. You have a great work ethic, as you clearly are doing a bunch of models and stuff. But there is no real composition, refined models or really anything that looks finished on all of these pages. The lighting and textures are usually strange looking as are the floating animals.
I understand the concept of experimenting… but you are constantly posting here, more than daily, and many of them are just the same exact image, with extra smoke or something.
Keep on working, but you may want to try working on your rendering, and textures and materials. They may help the overall look of your stuff.
Just my 2c.
Chris Spade…Counted in for sure.
If you read the replies by other very respected members of this forum in this thread, you will for the most part see just the opposite stated of what you have stated regarding my works, with the exception of about nine trolls who plaqued this thread from the get go until recently that is…
But for sure, you are entitled to your 2 cents worth, for whatever it is worth…
the ones with less smoke are wonderful. just beautiful.

Ha! I love it, gives it such a wonderful sense of composition. I was getting over sensed with the same variations you were doing over and over again, but this change is a welcomed one. Very nice.

Framedworld …Thank You… I was getting tired of it myself, but I learned from it in the process…Repeating something with slight variations and subtle changes has a positive side to it, as long as something is learned by doing so…even if it bores the hell out of everyone else…How many takes did it take some of those old movie directors to get the scene they were pefecting just right and exactly the way they wanted it and saw it in their minds eye…Hundreds of takes, to the dismay of the actors involved in the scene that was being captured…

I think the mirrored version is better
Hi Bas …Not sure which one you are reffering to when you say mirrored.:qu:
Could you please clarify to me which one it is that you prefer…I trust your opinion alot, and would really like to know…Thanks…
Ah, the horses at the right side are looking better for me. Reading goes from left to right (here).
Maybe you need more buildings or something else to close the gap in the middle?
Thanks Bas… Is this what you mean…posted above:qu: I was thinking that the gaze itself of Zapata looking down at the city is what was reading from left to right…That’s why I reversed it from the horses being on the right side of the canvas…Maybe I was wrong…I don’t know…
Going to work on the valley down below, and the leadin to it… for sure…I’ve been studying some peopled landscapes of PIETER BRUEGEL for inspiration…Great stuff…
Those colors are great! Now the eye goes to the most important part, then it goes back to look at the valley to see (when it’s finished) a lot of details.
Keep going, nice image!
Hey Man:
It’s been a long time since I visited your thread last time, just stop by and say hi to the master.
Most of zbrush users, include me , are technical-oriented artist such as 3d-animators and game artists, we deal with a lot of technical details all the day, but for me, I always remind myself that Art is not only about technical details, if someone can master anatomy, or color & shade, or even know how to carve trolls with chainsaw, good for him, but without imagination and inspiration they’re all useless.
Thanks again for bringing fresh air to this over technical based world, **** anatomy and topology and so on folks, just see and feel.
Digichu, thanks for posting this here. The power of creativity is combining the tools. Or maybe only use just one tool and get the best out of it. Here we can find the freedom of both choises.
