Hi, I’m a new user and I signed up to the forums to ask some basic questions like: “how do I do this?” or “does this exist in zbrush?” But I can’t really find a good section for this kind of thing. Where is the best place for this?
Also, on a semi-related note, is there any help in Zbrush like most other software? I couldn’t find it, but probably just overlooking it.

Here’s a bit about me, just to give some perspective where these questions are coming from. My background is working in traditional materials, so I’m a total noob at Zbrush and most things digital. Basically, my terminology in this regard is that of an infant, so please excuse me.
So here is the initial barrage:
Can I use subtools to “subtract” from other subtools? Like overlapping shapes and using one to carve out of the other one their shared space?
Can I merge two subtools into a single subtool? I tried the “merge down” in the subtool palette but it doesn’t actually merge the geometry, like a boolean.

In ZBrush it’s called Remeshing. There is a section on it in the ZBrush4_whats_new.pdf in your ZBrush 4.0\Documentation folder, starting on page 160.

The getting started guide that zber suggested is really a good place to get a complete overview of what ZBrush does and how it does it. I would highly recommend downloading it and going through it end to end. It’s very informative. And it has lots of links to videos and other great information.
