new user having troubles sculpting head

im relatively new to ZBrush 3 (and ZBrush in general)
I am following along with the tut in the practical guide to ZBrush 3 but it doesnt seem to be laid out well for new users…

My major problems are the structure of the face and working out how to form the nose, Lips, Jaw Line, Ears (in side view)
I am using X symmetry as it told me, held down the shift to rotate it to it’s side but, as i begin to form the bridge of the nose and other details that concern structure i get two of them, i.e… the bridge of the nose where the brow meets the bridge creates two lines. I flip it to it’s front view and try to fill in the gap left behind and it makes it worse, I try to go back forth from carving in to it, smoothing and adding depth. been at it for a few hours and just cant seem to find a way to work it out…

I am using the standard brush and the move brush. can anybody tell me what i am doing wrong? the tutorial makes it look like its the easiest thing in the world but it really isn’t (for brand new users at least)
Perhaps if there is a clearer, step by step tutorial somewhere, that could definitely help

oh…almost forgot to add that i am also alternating the Z Intensity, trying to trouble shoot it that way, still gives problems.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me, I am more than excited to be a part of this community, i had been reading other posts and checking out the galleries for inspiration so i already know anything you guys give me will be a GEM!

It would help if you put up some pics so we can get a clearer idea of the problem.

I think I get your problem. Rotate the head just slightly before sculpting. Make sure you are sculpting in perspective view, hotkey “p” to go from orthographic view to perspective and back.

THANK YOU
I guess i had also forgotten the fundamentals of working with clay from school also. once i applied the basics of what i had learned with real clay it became simpler to me (guess i was thinking too technical)
and I hadnt known about the views, THANKS again!
