New To ZBrush - NEED TIPS PLEASE!

Hi there,

I have a JPG photo (black/n/white) of a cylinder, its like a shiluette of a ring, reallly simple and i want to ‘convert’ this shape into a ‘metal-ring’ - I import the JPG via the ‘Alpha’ command and i can now paint this ‘ring’ onto the canvas.
What i am confused about is that every time i paint it onto the canvas, the ring looks pixelated, and it hasnt got the metal texture that i want.
Can someone help me on this one? The JPG is already in 300 dpi, and i’ve already downloaded a scrip that can export the image 300dpi…but i cant make it look ‘clean’ - its still a bit pixelated on the edges, and doesnt have the ‘right’ metal texture.

Can someone help me on this one?

I would really appreciate it.
thanks

can ya show a screen capture of exactly what you mean?

you might need to clean up your alpha.

why not create a ring3d and adjust it how you want it, divide it a few times and throw a metal material on it?

well…there’s a problem with the ring3d - cause its not entierly a ring…damn, im so bad at explaining things. This is how it supposed to look “the ring” - i mean check out the rendering, it looks like red jello, and i want to make it look METAL - but i dont know how! Help would be very appreciated! thanks.

You just need a good metal material. Try this one - it’s just the Noisy Metal material adjusted slightly. You might like to try adjusting the Noise Radius and Color Bump sliders to see how the effect changes. The thing to remember with materials is that there are 75 ‘slots’. If you draw your object on the canvas using the Toy Plastic material and then load a material using the Load button without selecting a different material first then the loaded material will overwrite the ToyPlastic and the appearance of your object will change. This takes some getting used to but when you do it can be a very handy way of working. It means you can adjust the look of things on the camnvas without repainting.

For the disk I used your black and white pick as an alpha, Set the MRes to 136, MDep to 24 and Double Sided.
