New to zbrush, few questions

So I just started playing with zbrush (4r5) today in an attempt to make some hair for a character im modeling in maya. The interface is still completely foreign, so if any advice is offered please dumb it down pretty hard.

I found this tubes brush, and used it to block out some long thick hair. Im looking for some help figuring out the best way to sculpt it from here. Im thinking it needs to be smoothed out then shaped a bit, but all the tools ive tried so far are just making it look worse.

Any input is welcome, even its just a completely different way to make hair.

You need to update to 4r6.

Yeah, what beta_channel said. Try Fibermesh. On your model, mask the areas you want hair, small patches may work better. Once masked at bottom of subtool palette is extract, make sure double is off, set thickness to small value maybe 0. Click extract and if it looks close to shape you want then accept it. Next switch to the extracted form, it still has masking applied, open Fibermesh panel, there’s lots of goodies in there to play with.

ill give that method another shot, I tried that earlier and could not find a look that looked anything but crazy and un kept. Maybe i need to mess with the settings a bit more
