New Layers + Old .Ztl = X_X

I’ve got quite a few .ztl’s from 3.5r3 that I need to get across to ZB4, each with many, many subtools which each have their own corresponding layers etc.

The problem I’m running into is when I open the .ztl’s in ZB4 they come across fine for the most part but am having a few issues that need sorting.

Sometimes one of the subtools will turn into the Shadowbox thing. Other times all the sub tools come across but in the layer palette the layer will be in Rec mode. Regardless of what subtool this occurs on it crashes Zbrush if i try to turn Rec off.

I’ve not had time to check but a possible reason why is that layers are active in the subtools in from 3.5r3?? If this IS what’s causing the problem is there any way to turn ALL layers on ALL subtools to inactive in a .ztl all in one go?? I have waaaaaaaaay too many ztl’s with numerous subtools that have layers to go do that one by one.

I will have to check this as I have not done that yet, but I have had MANY issues with this release, a lot of it involving layers.

Maybe a smarter person than I can find a solution for this, sounds like a real pain.

Yeah, the layer system seems to be really crazy at this point. They seem to store masks and won’t let go of them later down the line. The layers get broken and wont let you go into Rec mode sometimes…unsure what causes that either. I’ve also had the new layers screw my polypaint and just make everything all black. Scale bug still there. Spotlight crashing left and right. Flaky/No autosave with Win7.

Honestly, this is the most unstable release I’ve experienced yet (i’ve been a user since v2.) This is on multiple machines, multiple OS’s, multiple input devices ranging from old wacom intuos 3’s up through fat daddy Cintiq’s so it seems the problems are in ZB and not just due to hardware/driver issues.

Anyone have any idea on the next point release? Thing is with Zbrush the Pixologic team always gives us massive new functionality but it seems each time it comes at the cost of stability and yet another work around that must be performed to actually get to those goodies. Not a personal jab at you pixo devs in any way…this is just what I experience as a professional end user of your software. Can you guys confirm the issue with layers that crashes ZB?
