New 3D Headscan: Need Feedback

Hi there,

I’m make headscans using a custom build scanner and use Zbrush to retouch and retopologize. I’m relatively new to this proces and could use some feedback regarding texturing/topology. Here’s the model on P3D:

Let me know what you think?

Thanks!

Mark

its a cool start but I would definitely step it up a notch. Do you have some high rez renders of this ? Textures look pretty low res inside p3d.in Did you use qremesher for this bause it kinda looks like the default topo that it creates. It all depends what you want to use this for. Can you share some more light on your custom built scanner

Thanks for your reply, Bomoh.

Here’s a render of the sculpt. I used Qremesher with Qremesher guides for retopology. I would like to animate the headscans later on: Do I need to be more precise in retopology? Or use a different approach? DO you have any tips?

The scanner I’ve build is a rotating platform on the ceiling of my studio with one DSLR mounted on an arm. It rotates around the subject in 30 seconds and the camera is remotely triggered. I take appoximately 35 photo’s which are then imported to Agisoft Photoscan for building a raw mesh and texture. Results aren’t perfect and need a lot of work in Zbrush, but it’s faster than modelling which took me two weeks to complete.

There’s a new project I did with Skullmapping (motion capture & scanning) and the scanner @ work is included in the “making-of” video. I’ll post it when it’s published so you can see it in action.

Have a nice day!

If you want to animate this, you are indeed going to have to have a look at the topology. Have a look at Hippydrome’s site.

And perhaps Jason Ospia’s work here:

That should get you on your way to making a cage you can move about successfully. Note, not sure what app you’re thinking about setting up your facial rig in, but be warned both of those references are big on theory and low on concrete technique.

Thanks! These are usefull references.
