Neptune (?)

[QUOTE=Bimm the Stone]. Still got a few yards to go
QUOTE]

First you said : “a Year” , so now its “a few yards” …that’s optimism

jantim

I didn’t say how fast I was walking  …but actually I was being sarcastic.

A test, I’ve never really tried to make a composition in Zbrush consisting of several different objects.
So I have to experiment with this first.

neptune-body-05b-2ab.jpg

Just keep going, it is going to be a great picture when it’s done (in a year ). Perhaps you could do some fish-scales for a texture? I always wonder what Neptune would smell like…

I’ve never done a real big scene with lots of objects in ZBrush either !
And since you can’t “pose” a character,-at this moment- exept if you use ZSpheres, i think its best to create your characters in “parts”: head, torso, arms, hands etc. , a big plus is the fact that all these objects can be " ZBrushed " almost seamless together !..but its a lot of work !

jantim

That’s exactly what I was practising.
The main problem I see is fitting the different parts together seamlessly and creating different parts that have (don’t know how to say this correctly in english) equal overlapping or joining surfaces, What I mean is: one part fits correctly in the other part. That’s mainly why this neptune-guy of mine has that stupid collar around his neck.

You say Jantim that those objects CAN be Zbrushed together seamlessly. Is this a process of trail and error, I mean moving, rotating etc. till it fits, or is there A- SPECIAL-WAY that I don’t know of?

I’m gonna keep cluttering this forum with my practice-doodles…

the ornaments are still very basic, because I haven’t done anything with them yet, but maybe they don’t need to be very detailed, we’ll see…

Babysteps, babysteps, so I can take a whole year just to walk just a few yards.

Bimm,…how can i know, what you know of making these composite characters

As i said before i have not done a lot of complex scenes…and “fusing"body-parts of a -semi-naked guy is not as easy as hiding hands in sleeves and heads in the collar of a jacked…so i guess first you must have an idea of the pose of the character for image…remember ZBrush is more like a 2D-program with an
extra edge then a 3D-program with a handicap !..You must have a clear idea of your scene and model your bodyparts to that idea e.a. what you dont see you dont have to model !..and its better to fit a neckless head on a torso WITH a neck then trying to fit a” head wit neck" to a torso !
And you can push an pull the edges of your model before you snapshot it to the canvas…and after that use the smudge-brush to “melt"you pixols together. …mostly use the glow-brush for melting the bodyparts its works better and there are no “artifacts” on the edges of your model if you use this brush !..another thing that can help is first create a sort of " stickfigure” in the pose and size of your final model and then "graft"your bodyparts on this model…in this way you can keep your Z-depht uniform …i did this with my "scrapcamel"render…i used a lowpoly camelmodel and then used that model to form the image of a composite heap of scrap in a camelform !
On this forum there are lots a threads where body-parts are fused together
its only after Zbrush 2 ,and 1.5 i think ,that people could use Zspheres to model a complete human…before that time everyone had to use bodypart to create models !

jantim

 … You’re right ofcourse Jantim, you couldn’t know.
But thanks for your advise and tips, they helped alot. It’s still not finished, but I’m getting there bit by bit.
He still has to hold something in both his hands, don’t know what yet. A trident would be the logical choice, but I can’t get the perspective juuust right.

The trident at his belt, I’m not sure of right now…he would get pierced while bending.

(Getting the parts to fit was a hassle by the way)

neptune-full-body-web.jpg

Bimm…perhaps a trident holster/backpack on his back? (would allow the
image more height and view of the clouds/background, or you could change
the perspective to be worm’s eye or from above looking down…)

rookie-z

…if you plan to keep this pose ,you can give him some heavy chains in his hands to control a couple of snarling sea-beasties…could be a nice Frazetta like rendering !.. its looking good :+1:

jantim

rookie-z, the bigger background was a good idea, I took up on that, thanks.

Jantim, sea creatures was an excellent idea, Although the pose wasn’t right for him controling them with chains, I put them in.

here’s a general idea of where I’m gonna take it.

neptune-full-body-test2.jpg

although looking at it now, it has a balance problem…

This is gonna be nice. Problem now seems to be a VERY dynamic background and a quite steady Neptune. I don’t know if you are able to change his pose. (doing that in Zbrush 2.5 would be easy if I read the features correct…) Looking forward to the next update :+1:

Nice sea serpents !..and look at the bright side : If it takes a year ,you will have ZB 2.5 and can pose your model(parts) as you like  .
The contrast between the dynamic background - serpents,sea,clouds-and a steadfast Neptune holding his ground/rock can be interesting as well !

jantim

It seems everybody is eagerly awaiting ZBrush 2.5…hmm… according to what you say it’s goning to be sweeet., must check it out if I have the time.

Thanks plakkie, of bedankt  No, can’t change the pose without a LOT of work…so I won’t.

Jantim, you just can’t stay away can you?..you must feel guilty putting me up to this much work.

I think the contrast will work just fine if done correctly.

anyway, here is a first test for the sea-serpents…or as I like to call them Draconic Eels.

new-neptune-3d4.jpg

Great work bro.

Ah, nice, now it’s has some story in it! (is dat de eerste Hollandse Nieuwe misschien?) I like the steady pose more now I can see the distance between Neptune and the “Draconic Eels” (you must use large horse for bait with these fellows…). I have the urge to shout: “Neptune! Behind you!”, but he probably can’t here us because of the water in his ears.
Exciting how this is evolving from just the bust. Keep going! (easy to say if you don’t have to do all te work ;))

“Impressive montage” Bimm !..Neptune looks a bit like a stern headmaster now !

jantim

It’s come together so well it looks rather “SPECTACULAR”
