Need to recover ZTool, please help.

I was adding some color to my sculpt and all of a sudden the file became too large for my system to do anything with it, now it refuses to open in both of my computers. Is there any possible way to restore it to before i started coloring perhaps? Or maybe a different way to open it? (i should mention that I am barely learning zbrush and getting used to the workflow, I didn’t save different versions of the ztool because i assumed it would be ok…)

Any help would be appreciated, this is hours worth of work down the tubes

Once a file becomes corrupted, it’s not possible to restore. The best approach when saving your work is to save incrementally. For example, MyModel1, MyModel2 and MyModel3. That way you always have a couple backups to fall back on in case something goes wonky.

On a similar note,

If you save incrementally like: head01.ztl, head02.ztl etc. do you need to save your document too each time like: head01.zbr, head02.zbr, etc. or can you save the document once as head.zbr and then just continue to save your .ztl files incrementally?

Also, get yourself an external hard drive and do a back up every week. This has saved me many headaches.
