Need some help with lips and eyelids

Hey folks, could someone point me in the direction of finding some tutorials or lessons or something about sculpting realistic lips and eyelids? I’ve been having problems sculpting them and would like to see what I’m doin wrong.
Thanks!!

Hello, floyd54.

I’m currently sculpting a lot of faces myself, trying to improve my understanding of the face’s actual shape.
I also thought there’s like, definite ways of doing this or some sort of tricks, but I realized that (in my opinion) there is no such thing. Even if there were and you tried to use those tricks, it would probably still look wrong if you didn’t understand how eyelids and lips are really shaped (and for what reason). Now, you could start looking at tons of speed sculpts that can be found all over the web and many are conveniently uploaded on youtube as well, but if you tried to copy their approach, like I said, it might not really work. What I suggest is just studying them closely and carefully (and of course drawing them - if you can’t draw them, chances are you won’t be able to properly and convincingly sculpt them either)
From photo reference and also drawn - because drawings, especially sketches, oftentimes focus on the most defining lines of a detail/shape (which can sometimes be subtle in reality)

It seems this forum is sadly kinda dead by now, but the reference material there is quite decent.
About the sculpting itself, I am not sure how advanced your ZBrush knowlegde is, so pardon me if I’m saying stuff you are already aware of.
Make sure you have sufficient resolution, because the details of the eyes are quite delicate and gathered on a very small space. If you run out of resolution, it can become pretty hard to even get the mesh to have the right shape to support all the stretching that might occur.
You don’t have to have an optimized topology with edgeloops defining to the eyesockets to have enough resolution, a basic Polysphere should have enough resolution on either side.

Sorry for the long babble.
I hope it helps you a little.
If it did help and you have further questions, I’ll try and answer 'em.

Thanks for the help, but when I try to go to the links you posted they don’t work.

That’s weird…they’re working for me.

Maybe you have to start from here.
Good luck, and like I said, should there be further questions,
let me know and I’ll try and answer 'em.

Don’t work for me either

Well they work for me. Thanks a million Maxlenneper excellent resource.

They work for me too and are awesome.

Ah, I’m glad it’s useful to some.
I was starting to wonder whether the site is region-locked or something?
But apparently it’s not.
Anyway, happy ZBrushing, folks!

So is it a dead site though. I tried to register but it want let me :frowning:

Sorry man, I’ve no idea.
I didn’t register there myself, so I wouldn’t know if it still does accept new members.
But, from what I’ve seen, I’d say people aren’t active on those forums anymore. So, there isn’t much there, and most forums are even empty.
But those that have posts in them are of decent quality.
There’s some good reference stuff there, mostly from 3dsk, but with explanations and stuff. Someone took the time to make it comprehensible, and I found it quite helpful, at least the parts about the eyes.
