Need help updating UV's from Max to ZB

I’m having some problems when I reimport my obj from Max to update my UV’s. Here is what I have and the steps i’m taking. Maybe i’m missing a setting somewhere?

1: I made a model in ZB from ZSheres and turned it into a polymesh to sculpt.

2: After I finished sculpting I was at SubD level 5.

3: I did not store a morph target since I am finished sculpting and set my model to SubD level 1 and exported it as an obj.

4: I opened the obj in Max and layed out the UV’s making sure there were no overlapping areas.

5: I returned to ZB and loaded my model from it’s ztl file and set it’s SubD level to 1.

6: Next I import the obj file that I just saved in Max and here is where it gets screwed up.

It imports at a very small scale and the mesh is distorted and very bumpy looking. I can scale it back up with the transpose line but if I try to move it, it does’nt move the whole model. It moves half of it thus stretching the model. I have several subtools so this is a real pain to try to line everthing back up correctly. When I do a UV check, the UV’s have been updated but the model is not useable. Here is the workflow I would like to use…model and polypaint in ZB then export to Max to layout UV’s. Reimport into ZB and bake the polypaint into texture and make normal and displacement maps. Export maps and render with Max. Is this a good workflow? Need help please…

BTW…I have tried this with Max 7 and Max 9 with the same results.
