Need help to determine best graphic card

I am presently using new computer windows 7 64 bit, and my computer came with a NVIDIA GeForce 6310 512 Mb DDR3. Dell rep. had originally said my computer came with an ATI Radam or something, forgotten exact name, but I change it to NVIDIA, did I mess up? Should have I gotten the ATI. I am also using Lightwave 9.6…? Maybe I should have gotten a card with more RAM? My old computer card was a NVIDIA with 128 MB

I don’t think Nvidia makes a GeForce 6310. Don’t you mean AMD Radeon HD 6310?

My mistake, my card is a Nvidia GeForce G310 512mb ddr3, not a G6310.

I think it’s just a matter of personal preference whether you pick Nvidia or AMD(ATI). Personally, I like Nvidia and have two GeForce 8800GTS 512 cards in SLI in my computer and I think they’re great. You have to consider that the GeForce 310 is a low end card and you can’t expect too much performance out of it.

THIS IS GOOD TO KNOW, i IWLL TRY TO UPGRADE, BUT PLEASE TELL ME WHAT WILL A BETTER GRAPHIC CARD DO, CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHAT WOULD BE THE DIFFERENCE IN A BETTER ONE AND THE ONE i HAVE?

My old computer has a NVIDIA 128 MB GeForce 8300GS, is this better than the NVIDIA GeForce G310 512MB DDR3, I have now in my new computer?

Unless you like to play computer games, I wouldn’t worry about it too much right now if I were you. ZBrush relies more on CPU and RAM than it does on a graphics card. You have a 64 bit OS so I would suggest at least 6 GB of RAM. That would benefit you more than another graphics card. Now, I don’t use Lightwave, but, probably like most 3D apps, uses Open GL for live render in it’s views and this is where a better graphics card would come in handy. As far as which one of your cards is better…well, I wouldn’t know because I’ve never had either one of them. My guess is that they’re probably both about the same. Try them both and see for yourself.

I have 12 gigabyte of RAM, but only 11 is been used for graphics, dont know where the other one gig went, I just want the best render output to put on video tape to show as sharp and clear as possible. Thanks, for your help, I appreciate it.
