Need help scultping Baby Dragon, thanks in advance!

Hello! I am modeling a baby/kid dragon for my reel. I am having a lot of fun modeling him, but I would like to get some help before I continue. I am aiming for a dragon design, but I would like to make him more cute than aggressive looking. right now he looks pretty dam scary  lol

I am just in the initial sculpting phase and im not trying to add high detail yet. Also im not sure how good the proportions are so if feel as if they are off please warn me.

I am open to any advice, really. I have really appreciated all the help the Zbrush community has given me in the past, which in turn has helped me become a better artist. I look forward to your suggestions and advice, and
thank you for your time.

The links don’t work man.

I am truly sorry for the mistake. I was not able to see the post since it needed to be cleared before it’s viewable through the forum. they are just thumbnails but it’s the best I can do right now since I do not know how to attach pictures directly into the forum.

Ok, I took a look at your thumbnails. Looking good so far, I can see what you mean about it looking too scary. I think the key to making the dragon look more cute is all in the facial expression. Look at a child’s face or even a puppy’s for example.

Perhaps try to achieve a more cartoony look in the chracters face. I’m sure you can find many references on the net for this. I don’t think you need to change much about the rest of the body to get the effect you are looking for.

Hope this helps.

Thanks bro, great advice! I want a cute look, but i don’t want to stretch it out and make it Too cartoony, but I may need to go that route. I’m currently trolling the web for more references. hopefully I will have a improved version soon enough.

I welcome any other suggestions and help! thanks!

Cool. Post some more images when you have made further progress. There are many artists here on ZBC with amazing skills (that far succeed my own) so be sure to remain open to their constructive criticism. Good luck with your demo!

Hello everyone, Here is an update.

I have been gather references but im having a hard time still with the mean face. As I said I’m aiming for a nice/cute look. I believe it’s the teeth mouth area and the angry eyebrow that’s giving him that look.

I am adding clothing atm. I am using Martin Krol’s Zbrush tutorials. http://www.martinkrol.com/store.html
I have a collection of tutorials, but this one is really helpful for this particular character.

I will have more to add as a work. As I said before, any suggestions or comments what would be awesome. Thank you Trist for your support!

We should change the roles. I can only make cute looking faces instead of mean ones

As I said I’m aiming for a nice/cute look. I believe it’s the teeth mouth area and the angry eyebrow that’s giving him that look.
Yes, that is the reason for it. I would try to smooth the eyebrows and make the eyes a little bigger. Whatever has big eyes looks cute :3
Visible Teeth make something look aggressiv(like a dog for example), so, there are two options: You can put the teeth a little bit more inside the mouth(so they are partially hidden by the mouth/lips or erase some teeths away so he just have 1-3 teeth at all. That makes more a child dragon look.

In Summary: Less teeth, bigger eyes, smooth eyebrows

Thank you Bowser for the reply! you and trist make some excellent suggestions. I made a few adjustments and he actually looks a lot better! to me the eye and eyebrow adjustment really helped out.

Im currently adding props to the character like goggles and bags. Sorry for the long delay, the site was down at some point and I had a some trouble with getting the things to work with my character.

He is looking alot better, but I really need to focus and make more adjustments. The clothing could use some touch up. and I will need to start defining more detail into my character.

As I said before any help on what to next with my character would be greatly appreciated. I trying to get better but it’s hard to see my own flaws. you both have given me some awesome pointers and I would be ecstatic to hear anything else you have in mind!

I’m bumping this to dig it from the grave! lol I know it’s shameful but with the recent release of R2, their has been many threads that completely pushed away my thread. Again I’m interested in any help. I had some really awesome people give me some great advice and I would love to receive more. Here is an updated version
