Need help on deciding between core or full?

Ok so I’m an indie developer, I make game for mobile devices, I use UE4 and substance painter and designer. I’m looking to get into ZBrush but I do not know which one to get for my needs. I would like some input on which one, From what I understand there is no rigging for animation in ZBrush, I can use Maya LT for rigging and animation. Hope you can help thank you for your time and have a nice day.

ZBrushCore does not support UV mapping. This means that it can’t be used to create textures, normal maps or displacement maps. Since one of ZBrush’s strengths in a pipeline is to create those maps for use in your rendering engine, that means that ZBrushCore is going to be very limited for anyone doing animation work. ZBrushCore is at its best when it is the primary software being used.

I hope that helps!

Thank you for the reply, can’t I just use Maya LT for UV mapping sins I will have to use it for rigging and animation. So besides that how limiting are we talking, A little inconvenient or like you are going to have a hard time making assets for mobile games.

Yes you could do that for UV’s. But you should be aware that ZBrush Core is really just an entry level package and is lacking a lot of things that are in the full version of ZBrush. Off the top of my head, these include:

No ZModeler
No Spotlight
No Fibermesh
No Render Passes
No GoZ
No Crease Function
No Decimation Master
No Shadowbox
Meshes can’t be split or merged
No AO, SSS or Lightcaps.

There are more, but I can’t remember them all. There is a comparison list or chart somewhere. One of the other forum members may be able to find a link to it.

Personally I would go for the full version, I went from Sculptris to knowing I needed more, like: MUCH MOAR!!!
It’s sort of like wanting something and only buying part of it, what’s going to happen, if you are at all like me, is you are going to get Core (which is not even close to a substitute for Sculptris) and then you are going to hit walls, bounce off a few times, get mad and buy the full version anyway. Now you have spent an extra hundred and fifty bucks on something that takes up space and suddenly you will realize that you dont have what you want anyway.
ZBrush costs about eight hundred bucks, Core costs about one fifty, save the one fifty, get KeyShot (seriously) or a wacom tablet (oh god yes!).
To be honest I haven’t seen Core, but buying limits is not something I can do, and with the above reasoning I think the choice is sort of clear, but that’s me, I’m a ZBrush addict pure and simple. Its gotten into my blood and its not coming out. Having not seen it you must understand Im not ragging on it either, its just not what I want, I need EVERYTHING because Im greedy and because I want to learn as much as I can.
With ZBrush, a Wacom Tablet and KeyShot I can work nonstop for eighteen hours (with coffee, dont forget the coffee) and not notice that my eyes are forcing themselves shut. If I were being paid to do this the overtime would be outstanding.

As Arnold once said:
Do it! Do it NOW!

Thanks, I may go with the full version after I finish with the trial version. Just started using it today and it is super additive have a lot to learn but at least it fun to use.
