ne3go's scetchbook

Hello everyone! I’m starting learning Zbrush for few months now, really fantastic tool!
I’ve made some wip works just for exercise (not very good tries), my first post here was a woman ( http://209.132.96.165/zbc/showthread.php?t=65183 ) so I’ll post here my last character and any other scetch for critic and feedback.
It’s based on the concept “Mordak Brelliar” from Arnie Swekel (link: http://nightmare.org/dnd/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=6049). My model has a little different pose, and it’s taller-thinner. So far, I’ve finished sculpting face and clothes, and start polypainting. The belt, boots and stick are not sculpted yet. Thanks for viewing, looking forward for any comment-critique!

Interesting depiction of Mordak, equally evil look, especially with this thinner figure  keep the updates coming dude

This is the final render of the “Mordak Brelliar”, made in Max with Vray. Unfortunatelly the normal maps didn’t work so well, so any small sculpting in Zbrush is just in bump map.Comments and critique are wellcoming.Thank you!

Nice composition, very moody render. Normal Maps are nice but I find that Displacement maps are the way to achieve the overall detail.

Thanks jaystein777! I’m still trying to make a descent normal map, haven’t work with displacement yet.

Good start on your sketchbook. The render looking quite nice,…and moody. Would love to see the pure zsculpt of this Mordak Brelliar as well. Look forward for more.

Thanks for the comment SolidSnakexxx!
My last more detailed ztl always crash, so these are photos before fine-tuning the cloth parts and making the belt.

Nice overall render. The tile floor on the bottom seems to have it’s normal backward. The grout in sticking up higher than the tiles themselves.

Thanks for the comment goast666! The ground has some strange behavior in light.Someone said that the shadows are opposite than light…It has only a bump map, don’t know if it’s reversed, because the lines between tiles look ok.

Thanks for showing the ZSculpt version…You can invert the normal of that subtool by going to Tool > Display > Flip so the normal gets correctly pointed outward. Look forward for more

A new wip project called “Spartan Warrior”. Inspired by the movie “300”, and some historical reference, decide to begin a new character. My first try is to make an anatomically correct male body. Then I’ll start add the props. Any comment or critique is more than welcome!

An update…I mostly worked on the body and face, posed the guy and made some of the props, still very simple. Also, put some color to find the pallete gonna use in textures.A lot of work to do, hope you like the progress.

Really impressive progress on the update , well done so far !
The work on the anatomy and expression is remarkable and the pose is
very natural and imposing. Btw, are you going to keep these dreadlock-like hair like that, or possibly sculpt something like pigtails? I think there’s a nice tutorial somewhere in the tutorials section, showing how to make hair like that

Aumakua thanks for your comment!
After a crash on the hard disc the project was stored, I had to re-do a lot of sculpting work. Anyway, the model is now ready for texturing. Comments and critiques are welcome.

Well done! Good work on the cloth and the armour… and he looks a tiny bit like Clint Eastwood now, hehe
Can’t wait for the painted version  btw, are you going to make the crest with hair afterall?

Thanks aumakua! Yes, I’ll use hairfx in Max for the crest.

A test-render for the sss shader. I’ll render the final image in Max with mental ray.
The eyes and the eye-area need some more work, and wonder if the beard is gonna be mesh or hair fx in Max…

starting to look very nice. My only suggestion would be to take a bit more time on the eyes. They are the first thing most people look at and if you could make them more life like with shader, textures and more modeling on the lids your piece will be much better than most who only focus on structure.

Thanks for the comment poletH! In next update I’ll definately improve the eyes.
