Nasty Sparkly Artefacts when baking polypaint

Hi,
We are having an issue when we try to convert our polypainting to a texture map. See pic called screengrab1.jpg attached. You can see little multicoloured pixels all over the surface, especially around the corners of the mouth and on the feet of the character. The exported texture maps show the same artefacts, so it seems to be a problem with the actual baking process. See the pic called
The model was modeled and UV layout created in Softimage 2010, and was imported to Zbrush as an obj. We’ve also tried using ZBrush’s native UV layouts too, but the problem is still there.
We’re running ZBrush 3.5r3 on Windows Vista 64, with plenty of ram.
Has anyone had these kind of problems before - and is there any way around it?

One theory:

Your UVs may be too tightly packed. On a clone, run “New from UV Check” and see if there are any red spots in the resulting test texture. If so, space out your UV islands a bit.

Another test. On a clone, create PUV tiles (UV map menu) and do a “New from Polypaint”. Are the same areas a problem? If so, it is probably NOT the UV map (and probably means you should open a ticket Pix support to look at your model.) If the problem goes away with PUV tiles, then it strongly suggests a UV issue.

Thank you for the help! I will test and get back with any results, but I suspect that its not the UV’s as we did try use a GUV map. I am also opening a ticket, and if we solve it, I’ll post here
Cheers!

If you tried GUV tiles and had the same trouble in the same areas, then maybe the guys at Pix can figure it. Is there anything unusual about the topology in those areas? (I sort of discounted that as the sculpture looked pretty normal to me in the screen grab . . .)

Ive been over the model to check the topology but didnt see anything. I will send the model as a tool to Pixologic and see if they can pick it apart. I suspect that its something to do with the HD tools.

i had the same problem , on some of the tiles , so after some testing
the artifacts only appears on UV that are shifted on the V
so arrange all UV tiles in a horizontal direction , its worked for me
hope that helps , i added image to show u what i mean

well I also have a problem when I’m baking a polypaint to texture in HD.

Hi,
I submitted a ticket, and it turned out that there was an issue with the model’s geometry, althought they did not explain exactly what the issue was.
I think we ended up repainting the model, but not in HD this time
